A billboard spotted Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference bemoaning the plight of men accused of domestic violence caused an uproar when it was shared on X.
Reporter Eric Michael Garcia posted a picture of the sign entitled "Nuking the nuclear family" that criticized "overly broad" domestic violence definitions and restraining orders.
The billboard argued current U.S. policies are, "Ignoring the science that [domestic violence] is an equal opportunity problem,” despite data that shows women experience intimate partner abuse at twice the rate that men do.
Among statistics shared by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is one that shows, "94% of the victims of [intimate partner] murder-suicides are female."
Futures Without Violence founder Esta Soler told Newsweek, when asked for comment about the sign, "Put simply, none of it is true."

Garcia's followers on X expressed little surprise that he'd found such a sign at the Republican mainstay event.
"Never thought I'd see conservatives come out as pro-wife beating," said Jake Conner.
"Why push patriarchy if not to endorse gender violence?" replied Gwynn Dujardin.
Added @OriginalCyn77, "Oh so NOW the police have bias?"
"GOP," commented @stand4sumtin, "Defending abusers everywhere."
"Oh my god," said @pogoge. "They just hate women."
