A top retired general publicly derided former President Donald Trump and urged Americans to "step up" and "understand what's going on."
Speaking to MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on "Deadline: White House," retired Brigadier General Steve Anderson shredded Trump as a danger to American national security.
He and several other senior military officials signed a letter endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, which was released last week.

"He's going to weaken our national security in the most profound ways," Anderson said Monday afternoon. "I mean, first of all, all of our allies think that he is really a cacophonous buffoon. And whenever I travel overseas, people are always saying, what is going on with America? You can't seriously be looking at bringing Donald Trump back into office."
He said that he's forced to tell international audiences that there are 50 million-plus people who have bought into Trump's "con."
"He's been able to convince them that he cares about them and cares about this country," the general continued. "And, of course, he doesn't. But I mean, the things that he's done in Ukraine. We've got to continue supporting the Ukrainians. They're fighting for all of us. They're fighting against the Russians."
He mentioned Trump "coddling" dictators like those in North Korea and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I mean, he — President Bone Spurs!" said Anderson. "The whole thing. He doesn't understand about selfless service. He doesn't understand about military families. He doesn't understand what it takes to serve in the military. He's a convicted felon. He wouldn't qualify to be in the Army today. But, yet, he's going to be somehow qualified to be the president of the United States."
He called on Americans to "step up" and "understand what's going on."
