On Monday, the Notre Dame cathedral caught on fire leaving people around the world heartbroken.
The historic landmark had nearly 13 million visitors a year. As the fire blazed through the building, several wondered what would happen to the artifacts inside.

On Monday, Fox News hosted a town hall event in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who showcased his policy ideas ahead of his run for president.
In one memorable moment, conservative host Bret Baier tried to feel out the attendees' thoughts on "Medicare for All" — the colloquial term for folding all health insurance into a universal, comprehensive single-payer system that makes health care free at the point of use. And he was greeted by enthusiastic support for the measure.
"I want to ask the audience a question," said Baier. "If you could raise your hand here, show of hands of how many people get their insurance from their work, private insurance, right now, how many get it from private insurance."
Several people raised their hands, including Sanders himself (as a senator, he is legally obligated to purchase insurance under the Affordable Care Act, although the federal government subsidizes his plan.)
"Okay," said Baier. "Now of those, how many are willing to transition to what the senator says, a government-run system?"
Most of the hands stayed in the air, and cheers went up.

President Donald Trump has gone from trumpeting special counsel Robert Mueller's as-yet-unreleased report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, to his old standby of criticizing Mueller as a corrupt prosecutor out to get him.
Speaking to CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Monday, House Judiciary Committee member Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) suggested a possible reason for Trump's change of attitude: he might have advanced warning of what is in the report.
"I'll tell you, watching the president's Twitter account, I think he's just gotten briefed on the rest of the 400-page Mueller report," said Jayapal. "And that's why he's upped all of his, you know, tweets that are trying to criticize Mueller again, because he has been notified that there's a lot in there."
Attorney General William Barr initially summarized the report in a 4-page document saying that Mueller did not establish conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and did not make a determination either way on whether the president committed obstruction of justice in the course of the probe. Some members of Mueller's legal team have reportedly objected to how Barr characterized their report, which will be released to Congress and the public, in highly redacted form, on Thursday.

On Monday, Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R) announced that he is running a primary campaign against President Donald Trump.
During an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Weld explained that he fears for the Republican Party because of the leadership of Trump.
"I really think if we have six more years of the same stuff we've had out of the White House, that would be a tragedy and I would fear for the republic. I would be ashamed of myself if I didn't run," he said.
"Do you really think you can defeat him in the primaries?" Tapper asked.
"I do. It's one vote at a time and one voter at a time. What we have now is a president who mocks the rule of law. I spent seven years in the Justice Department trying to keep the politics out of law he's trying to put it in," he said.
Adding, "A president who says, 'we don't need a free press,' who says, 'climate change is a complete hoax.' He's not paying attention. I doubt very much he has [read] a study of any of those issues. He seems to have difficulty, in my opinion, and I was a prosecutor for quite a while, he has a difficulty conforming his conduct to the requirements of law. That's a serious matter in the Oval Office."

Longtime French diplomat Gérard Araud poured cold water on President Donald Trump's plan to save Notre Dame cathedral.
Araud currently serves as France's ambassador to the United States. He previously served as France's UN ambassador.
CNN's Jake Tapper interviewed Araud after Donald Trump had added his insight on the situation.
"So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris," Trump tweeted. "Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out."
"Must act quickly!" he added, as if he were the first to have the thought.
Araud addressed the idea while on CNN.
"The fire is at 100 feet, and as was explained, it's not possible to use water tankers, which could only worsen the situation of the building," Araud explained.
The French General Directorate of Civil Security and Crisis Management agreed, which they explained in a rare English tweet, seemly aimed directly at President Trump.

On Monday, Bill Donohue of the Catholic League told Fox News host Neil Cavuto that he was "suspicious" regarding the Notre Dame fire.
The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris caught on fire. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, and as of now, zero casualties have been reported.
"It's a monumental tragedy. Forgive me for being suspicious. Last month, a 17th-century church was set on fire in Paris. We've seen tabernacles knocked down, crosses torn down, and statues," Donohue said.
"We don't know that. If we can avoid what your suspicions are. Now I'm wondering how much more the Catholic Church commits to this or do you think they first want to get to the bottom of it?" Cavuto said.
"First, they have to get to the bottom of it. They will rebuild it. There's no question. I'm sorry. The Eucharist is being destroyed and excrement smeared on crosses," Donohue said.
"We cannot make conjectures about this. I'm sorry. Thanks very much. I do want to let people know, we're not trying to be rude to our guests. There's so much we don't know," Cavuto said.

President Donald Trump on Monday complained that a devastating fire at Notre Dame cathedral had put a "damper" on the excitement at his presidential events.
Trump spoke about the Notre Dame blaze at the start of an economic forum in Minnesota.
"Notre Dame cathedral is something like few people have witnessed," Trump told the crowd. "When we left [Air Force One], it was, it was burning at a level that you rarely see a fire burn. It is one of the great treasures of the world."
"Probably if you think about it, I would say, it might be greater than almost any museum in the world," he continued. "Looks like it is burning to the ground. So, that puts a damper what we're about to say. To be honest."
Trump also praised the cathedral for being "part of our culture."
"That is a truly great cathedral. I've seen it. There is no cathedral I think I say, probably no cathedral in the world like it," he said. "It is a terrible sight to behold. With that being said I want to tell you that a lot of progress has been made by our country in the last 2 1/2 years."

Fox News host Shepard Smith called out President Donald Trump on Monday for tweeting that French firefighters should "act quickly" to control the fire that decimated the Notre Dame cathedral.
In a somber broadcast, Smith noted that Notre Dame appeared to be engulfed in flames before reading the president's tweet.
"That is a statement which goes without saying," Smith lamented. "That from the president of the United States, with instructions on how to solve this problem, which is clearly reached a point where firefighters are unable to do much."
"It's a sinking feeling and sickening to imagine that this is happening," the Fox News host added.

A horrific scene played out in Paris, France on Monday as a fire broke out at the Notre Dame Cathedral.
The iconic building was completed in the 13th century, and draws an estimated 12 million visitors per year — nearly double the Eiffel Tower, the Washington Post reports.
According to The Daily Telegraph‘s James Rothwell, police sources say the fire was “started by accident and is linked to renovation works.”
CNN's Brianna Keilar opened her show on Monday by mocking President Donald Trump's latest excuse for refusing to release his tax returns -Congress isn't "smart enough" to understand them- noting that ten members of Congress are in fact trained in tax analysis.
"It's tax day and the White House has come up with a new reason to refuse to release the president's tax returns," Keilar said, ticking off the shifting reasons.
"The president has repeatedly blamed being under audit, even though there's no proof that he is, even though an audit wouldn't prevent him from releasing those tax returns," she said.
"Then he and his acting chief of staff said the public doesn't care to see the returns anyway," Keilar continued. "Now press secretary Sarah Sanders says members of Congress, both Democratic and Republican, just aren't smart enough to understand them." She cut to a clip of a red-faced Sanders shouting at the top of her lungs her opinion of Congress's combined intelligence.
"Here is where I should probably point out this," said Keilar with a mischievous smirk. "Ten members of Congress are accountants, three Democrats, seven Republicans and two of those accountants/lawmakers sit on the House Ways and Means Committee, the tax writing committee, which is asking for the president's tax returns."

Bill Clinton infamously parsed the meaning of the word "is," and a Fox News guest did the same for "shall" in an attempt to shield President Donald Trump from his legal obligations to turn over his tax returns.
Republican strategist Mattie Duppler appeared Monday on "America's Newsroom," where she agreed with Trump's lawyers that House Democrats were trying to obtain the president's tax returns as a political hit.
"The progressive agenda has no hope making its way through Congress," Duppler told anchor Bill Hemmer. "The Senate smacked down the Green New Deal, House Democrats can't get a budget done, progressives and socialists running for president like Bernie Sanders have little to show the base as they head into the election season. Tax returns are what they're pursuing. "
She claimed Democrats were trying to set up a lengthy court challenge to feed a media narrative, but Hemmer asked if the law wasn't clear that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin "shall furnish" the president's tax returns to the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
"Get back to the law here, 1924," Hemmer said. "The law states 'shall furnish,' does that hold up against the challenge if the law states 'shall furnish,' how can you deny Chairman (Richard) Neal (D-MA)?"
Duppler insisted the issue was much more complicated than the law suggests.
"Shall is a tricky word when it comes to legalese," she said. "It means that that may be the case, that the Treasury has to furnish this information. I think the question, of course, is whether or not Democrats on the panel are trying to use it for political means. It seems obvious if they're saying they this need this information in order to make sure that audit protocols are being followed at the IRS, this information isn't necessary for them to understand that. They should have asked the IRS commissioner when he was up on the Hill whether or not the audit protocols are being followed. Instead, they decide to grandstand on the tax returns themselves. That information is going to not be provided to them in a timely manner."
Washington Post White House bureau chief Philip Rucker told MSNBC on Monday that President Donald Trump's claims of "total exoneration" may well go down in history like President George W. Bush's premature claim of "mission accomplished" in Iraq -- which famously preceded disaster for the U.S. invasion.
"I don't know how you read the behavior of the last two weeks where he has been going in so many different directions," said host Andrea Mitchell about Trump's bizarre week. "He seems both emboldened and also more aggressive against his perceived opponents."
"You could also look at what President Trump has been doing the last couple of weeks and surmise that there could be some anxiety there about the Mueller report because he has been creating so many big headlines in other areas," replied Rucker, pointing to the president's attacks on congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and immigration grandstanding.
"He is creating all these brush fires, which we know from covering him the last few years, this is what he does when there is a big story he wants to distract from," Rucker continued. "You talk to the president's aides and allies privately, and they do express some concern that the report could be politically damaging to them."
"You have to wonder if it really is a bad report for the president, does 'total exoneration' become his 'mission accomplished,'" Rucker added, "which President Bush had the banner on the aircraft carrier prematurely declaring an end to the Iraq war."
