CNN's Toobin mocks Trump's bungled whitewash of Mueller report: It's not '400 pages of hearts and flowers'
CNN's Jeffrey Toobin on Thursday mocked the Trump administration for its failed effort to put a happy spin on special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Reacting to news that some on Mueller's team are unhappy with how their conclusions are being portrayed, Toobin said that the president's efforts to portray the report as a "total vindication" of his actions were laughable from the start.
"Even by [Attorney General Bill] Barr's summary, it was a close question about whether the president committed an illegal act!" he said. "That means, by definition, there is bad information in there. The idea that this is 400 pages of hearts and flowers to Donald Trump is inconceivable. There obviously is incriminating information there."
Toobin went on to say that we have no way of knowing how incriminating the evidence against the president is, but he also predicted that nothing in report would change the American public's overall perception about Trump.
Still, he said that the full report needed to be put out so people could judge for themselves.
"This is yet reason why the report itself has to be released," he said.
