Progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) roasted MAGA as Democrats and Republicans in her state square off in an escalating feud over GOP plans to conduct a mid-decade redistricting that would boost the party's numbers ahead of a challenging mid-term election.
Crockett joined "All In" on Tuesday night with fill-in host Ari Melber.
"So let’s talk about what happens here, and I think this might be why some people across the country are struggling with this. This is not a Texas problem. If Texas creates five more House of Representatives seats, that’s an America thing, right? That could be the distinction. That could be the difference between Republicans keeping hold of Congress in the midterm elections, or not," said Melber.
Crockett agreed, "It absolutely could be." She said Democrats should control the House, but they don’t.
"And the only reason we don’t control the House isn’t because we didn’t work hard, isn’t because we didn’t raise money, isn’t because we didn’t put up good candidates. It is because North Carolina, as soon as they ended up with a Republican majority on that Supreme Court, decided to redraw the lines again," she said.
While the state should split its 14 votes, the congressional delegation is 10 Republicans and four Democrats.
"They took three seats away from us. And those three seats would have made the difference in having a Speaker Johnson and a Speaker Jeffries," she said.
Later in the segment, Melber asked Crockett her thoughts on Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) asking the FBI to get involved and arrest or bring back the Texas lawmakers so the GOP plan can move forward. Crockett gave an eyebrow-raising response, jabbing MAGA and defending Cornyn.
"This is interesting. Now, listen, I’m about to tell all of MSNBC a secret: I actually don’t hate Senator Cornyn at all," she said.
Crockett called Cornyn a "real Republican who’s doing everything he can to make it seem like he’s a MAGA Republican so that he can get through his primary."
Cornyn, she said, sat on the state's Supreme Court and usually works in a bipartisan manner. She insisted, "This is not him."
"This is somebody who is literally doing everything he can to hopefully get some of that MAGA base that is riled up to vote for our corrupt attorney general," she added.
Crockett continued to scorch the MAGA movement and its politicians.
"I’m convinced: the only way that you can succeed with MAGA is you’ve got to cheat on your wife, you’ve got to have some felonies hanging over your head, you’ve got to do something that makes you a little saucy before they will get behind you," she said. "And that’s exactly who AG Paxton is. And unfortunately, he is consistently leading in the primary polls on the Republican side."
Cornyn, she said, knows the FBI can’t haul in the dozens of Democrats who fled the state to thwart the GOP's redistricting scheme.
"But the MAGA base won’t know that," she concluded.
