On Sunday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) indicated he would consider opening up another investigation of Hillary Clinton by saying "nothing is off the table" during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News.
That led MSNBNC analyst Steve Benen to question whether Republicans will ever tire of going after the former first lady and Secretary of State, and label their obsession with her as "creepy."
During his Fox interview a very animated Jordan argued that the Department of Justice never gave Clinton the scrutiny Donald Trump has received for his many transgressions, arguing, "They not only didn't investigate her like they did President Trump, they gave her campaign a defensive briefing! They should have done the same for President Trump because they literally had no evidence."
According to MSNBC's Benen, Jordan, whose weaponization hearings have been criticized as being duds, is looking for a new target.
"In fairness, it was the host, not the guest, who brought up Clinton, but it would’ve been easy for Jordan to dismiss the idea of yet another investigation into the former Democratic presidential candidate," he wrote before adding, "Time will tell, of course, whether the Ohioan bothers to pursue Clinton again, but one of the striking things about his reaction to the question was the familiarity of these circumstances."
Pointing out that GOP lawmakers continue to use Clinton to rile up their base, Benen stated their "fixation" is disturbing at best.
"Not to put too fine a point on this, but Clinton hasn’t held public office in over a decade," he wrote. "[Special counsel John] Durham uncovered literally no evidence that she did anything wrong. I realize some habits can be tough to break, but the GOP’s fixation on her is just creepy."
