One-time Trump attorney Tim Parlatore speculated on Wednesday morning that it wasn't a coincidence that news of former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows' immunity deal with special counsel Jack Smith leaked at the same time that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been flipping witnesses in a series of plea deals.

During an interview with CNN's Phil Mattingly, Parlatore said he was not surprised that Meadows had taken an immunity deal from Smith and said that news of the deal may been leaked by Meadows' team to send a message to Willis.

"I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a setup for Mark Meadows to take a sweetheart deal in Georgia, and maybe this article was even a message to Fani Willis of, 'Hey, maybe instead of indicting him you should have tried talking to him first, and maybe you want to step back from your position instead of, you know, continuing down this path.'"

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Although Meadows was indicted in the Georgia case, he was not even mentioned as an unindicted coconspirator in special counsel Jack Smith's indictment of former President Donald Trump on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, which led some observers to speculate that he had gotten an immunity deal.

All of the recent plea deals among his one-time allies have angered Trump, who on Tuesday night accused people who are cooperating with the special counsel of being "weaklings and cowards."
