Raw Story investigative reporter Jordan Green has won a 2023 Folio Award for his January 6-related investigations and reporting on extremism, the Fair Media Council announced today at its annual luncheon on Long Island, N.Y.

Green, who joined Raw Story in 2021, was honored for writing a series of investigations published during 2022, including exclusive articles about the January 6 insurrection, election denialism, power grid attacks and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"Highly sourced and extremely timely," is how the award judges described Green's work.

“It’s truly an honor to receive this award. It’s gratifying that, thanks to Raw Story’s investment in investigative reporting, I can make a contribution to our collective understanding of the unprecedented assault on American democracy that was and is January 6," Green said. "The story has not been fully told yet, but the painstaking and labor-intensive work of many unheralded journalists and volunteer researchers is, piece by piece, bringing the full picture together.”

Raw Story Editor-in-Chief Dave Levinthal praised Green's work as "relentless, fearless and fair."

"Jordan is simply one of the nation's best reporters covering extremism, and anyone who values our democracy, security and freedoms should read every story he writes," Levinthal said.

The Fair Media Council, one of the nation's oldest nonprofit news consumer advocacy organizations, describes the annual Folio Awards as "the gold standard for recognizing the best in news and social media."

Building on his 2022 portfolio, Green's investigative reporting this year has been even more prolific.

Raw Story investigative reporter Jordan Green won a 2023 Folio Award from the Fair Media Council on June 23, 2023 in Long Island, N.Y.

His reporting led to the arrest of a suspected January 6 attacker.

A three-part series titled "Our Best Face" unearthed how Women for America First, which held the permit for the rally where Donald Trump spoke on Jan. 6, 2021, were tied to the violent Three Percenter group Guardians of Freedom.

He has used the Freedom of Information Act, state open record laws and other government documents to obtain and publish revelatory documents and records about Trump, Kanye West, Klansmen, neo-Nazis and a violent January 6 attack participant who worked at nuclear power plants.

He has also broken a variety of stories ranging from how a Marine Corps veteran accused of plotting a terror attack was in possession of classified documents to why civil rights leader Al Sharpton's old presidential campaign has failed for years to pay a big U.S. Treasury bill.

Founded in 2004, Raw Story is America’s largest independently-owned political news site.

This year, Raw Story has significantly expanded its investigative and original reporting team. New hires include Editor-in-Chief Dave Levinthal, Executive Editor Adam Nichols and investigative reporters Alexandria Jacobson and Mark Alesia.
