Ron DeSantis avoids Trump pardon question ‘like it’s a Black history book’: MSNBC’s Joy Reid

MSNBC host Joy Reid on Thursday mocked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over the Florida governor’s unwillingness to address the question over whether he’d pardon Donald Trump if the former president were to be convicted of a federal crime.

Reid said she thinks Trump believes his best shot at beating the 37-count indictment over the handling of classified documents – or any future charges in connection with special counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 probe – is to win the presidency.

But Reid suggested Trump has a Plan B, noting that “he clearly wants to railroad the other Republican presidential contenders into” promising to pardon him.

“That question of to pardon or not to pardon it has become a new litmus test for 2024 hopefuls,” Reid said.

“Other than longshot contender Vivek Ramaswamy, who is calling on all candidates, including Democrats and independents to pledge to pardon Trump on their first day in office, no one seems to be willing to give a clear answer.

She noted that Nikki Haley said she'd be inclined to pardon Trump, and that former Vice President Mike Pence said it was premature to discuss a potential Trump pardon.

“Even Ron DeSantis, who last month said it said that he would consider a pardon, has been avoiding the question like it's a Black history book ever since the indictment was handed down,” Reid said.
