A Republican senator who condemned politicized attacks on Hurricane Helene relief efforts was bombarded with mockery Monday when he claimed both the Democrats were to blame.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) was subjected to ridicule after he slapped back at Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for sharing his own argument — namely that Hurricane Helene victims were being hurt by political posturing.

"I was talking about politicians like YOU using this disaster," Tillis wrote to Harris on X. "Where were YOU as Ft. Liberty troops were standing by for days?"

Tillis was responding to a Harris campaign retweet sent Sunday which shared an earlier message from him that read: "The last thing that the victims of Helene need right now is political posturing, finger pointing or conspiracy theories that only hurt the response effort."

While it did not name names, Tillis' tweet drew attention to Trump who has made multiple headlines over the past week by spreading false claims about the federal government's response to the tragic storm.

Trump has falsely claimed President Joe Biden robbed Federal Emergency Management Agency funds and was unreachable in the aftermath of the storm.

The Republican nominee has also falsely claimed the Biden Administration left out from relief efforts voters who do not support their political party — as Trump's former aides say he did in 2018 — and diverted it to immigrants.

Tillis, when faced with these claims on CBS News' Face the Nation over the weekend, acknowledged his state was receiving the resources it needed and relief efforts had not been affected by Biden Administration immigration policy.

In a written statement, Tillis added, "The last thing that the victims of Helene need right now is political posturing, finger pointing, or conspiracy theories that only hurt the response effort."

Andrew Egger, White House correspondent for the conservative news site the Bulwark, argued that Tillis' Monday message directed at Harris represented an attempt to backtrack comments criticized by his own party.

"Tillis gets MAGA backlash for (obviously correct) calls to stop politicizing hurricane response, so he feels the need to do a little flaming of his own," wrote Egger. "Very grim."

Other pundits resorted to taunts.

"Are you worried Trump will see this and get mad at you?" replied MSNBC political analyst Molly Jong-Fast.

"Resign, fascist," added pundit Keith Olbermann. "You are enabling Our Hitler May your creator forgive you."

"Donald will never love you," added the political group Republicans Against Trump, "no matter how hard you try."

Conservative political analyst Tim Miller said simply, "Pathetic."
