Conspiracy-spouting lawyer Sidney Powell, whose false claims about Dominion Voting Systems rigging the 2020 election came from a woman who claims she can speak with the wind, sent shockwaves through former President Donald Trump's legal team by agreeing to a plea deal with Fulton County prosecutors.

A new report from Rolling Stone claims that Powell was almost the last person whom Trump and his allies expected to flip given her apparently sincere conviction that late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez hatched a conspiracy years ago to use Dominion voting software to rig elections against conservatives all over the world.

One lawyer close to Trump said that Powell seemed unlikely to cooperate with prosecutors because "crazy as she was, she really believed what she was pushing."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Another source described by Rolling Stone as someone who has known both Trump and Powell for years marveled that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team "managed to break the woman who was never supposed to be breakable."

In a deal unveiled on Thursday, Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts that will result in her receiving six years of probation, while also being forced to pay a $6,000 fine and a $2,700 restitution to the state.

Powell must also testify truthfully at future trials, potentially including the trial of Trump himself, and will write a letter of apology to the citizens of Georgia.
