Former President Donald Trump's campaign is reportedly working to bat away some of his most toxic supporters from being hired to help his 2024 run.
Sources tell Axios that the campaign has been trying to work around Trump's desire to bring back several controversial figures, including convicted felon Paul Manafort and former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who is despised even by many MAGA diehards.
Trump advisers refer to these hangers-on as "crazies" and they often struggle to find roles for them that will satisfy Trump's desire to have them in the fold while still keeping them at arms' length.

"Trump's top campaign advisers have dealt with some far-right personalities by directing them to one of the several Trump-aligned PACs, which operate separately from the campaign," Axios writes. "Trump maintains warm relationships with them — and has regular phone calls with some, without always telling his advisers beforehand."
The publication notes that Trump's campaign advisers have tried to put up more guardrails around his interactions after he hosted Holocaust-denying neo-Nazi influencer Nick Fuentes at his Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022.
And sometimes, advisers have had to put their foot down entirely -- according to Axios' sources, Trump co-campaign manager Susie Wiles personally shot down his plan to hire conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who, like Lewandowski, is considered toxic even among many within the MAGA movement.
