Donald Trump pushed conspiracy theories about his 2020 election loss to insist he is "entitled to immunity."
The twice-impeached former president was indicted Aug. 1 by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., on four counts related to his effort to overturn his election loss, but he claimed Wednesday morning in a Truth Social post that he was acting within the scope of his official duties to overcome what he claims were irregularities in the vote.
"They cheated on the Election in so many ways," Trump posted. "Ballot stuffing, the 51 Intelligence Agents, not getting approval from state legislatures, FBI/Twitter Files, and much more. The Election was long over, I wasn’t campaigning, I was just doing my job. I am entitled to IMMUNITY!!!"
Trump has challenged his prosecution by special counsel Jack Smith and prosecutors in Georgia and New York by claiming broad immunity, which District judge Tanya Chutkan has rejected, but the former president has appealed her ruling.
"They illegally spied on my campaign, lied to Congress, cheated FISA, didn’t get approval from State Legislatures, lost control of ballot counting, stuffed ballots, 51 Fake Intelligence Agents, FBI/Twitter Files, and much more, and they come after me for Election Interference," Trump added. "Only in America!"
Trump's campaign attorneys – some of whom have been charged, pleaded guilty or sued for defamation – lost a series of lawsuits making the same claims that he continues to make about his election loss.
