Donald Trump posted an all-caps-riddle rant Friday responding to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ acknowledgement of her personal relationship with the special prosecutor in her Georgia election racketeering case.
“THAT MEANS THAT THIS SCAM IS TOTALLY DISCREDITED & OVER,” Trump declared. “By going after the most high level person, and the Republican Nominee, she was able to get her ‘lover’ much more money, almost a Million Dollars.”
Trump’s 430-word missive doesn’t quite capture the full extent of Willis’ 176-page filing in which she and Nathan Wade both deny the allegations of financial wrongdoing levied against them.
While co-defendants' attorneys contend Willis benefitted financially from the relationship in the form of trips paid for by Wade, she calls these claims “meritless” and “salacious."
In her filing, Willis writes, “Any personal relationship among members of the prosecution team does not amount to a disqualifying conflict of interest or otherwise harm a criminal defendant.”
The filing also includes an affidavit from Wade, who states their relationship began after he was brought onto the case and that the pair roughly split the cost of their trips.

The “much more money” Trump says amounted to nearly $1 million appears to reference the $653,000 Wade’s firm has been paid for his services since November 2021.
Trump’s assertion that “this scam” is over also doesn’t quite track with the facts. Willis faces a hearing to discuss the matter on Feb. 15 and Trump’s Georgia trial is slated to begin on Aug. 5.
The former president has pleaded not guilty to charges that he corruptly tried to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.
