U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Monday issued a limited gag order preventing former President Donald Trump from attacking special counsel Jack Smith, his family, court staff or possible witnesses.

Chutkan's ruling came after an hours-long hearing, with Trump attorney John Lauro arguing that the order was unnecessary.

"It's possible to craft a narrowly tailored order to serve those interests," she explained.

"Without this restriction, there's a risk witnesses can be intimidated."Anyone violating the order would be subject to court sanctions as "necessary," she said.
