Trump is ‘quite offended’ at being tied to Capitol insurrection by his supporters: defense lawyer

On Thursday, ABC News reported that David Schoen, one of former President Donald Trump's impeachment defense attorneys, says his client was "quite offended" by the raft of evidence shown by House managers that many of the Capitol insurrectionists believed they were acting on his orders.

"As the House managers continue to lay out their allegations, Schoen offered an assessment of Trump's mood," said the report. "'The president is very upbeat, he has condemned the violence, and doesn't in any way want to be associated with what happened in this violent incident,' Schoen said. 'He has condemned the people involved and obviously quite offended at being tied into it.'"

The impeachment trial featured footage from a number of Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol and claimed they did it at his behest. Some key actors in the invasion, including the so-called "QAnon Shaman" who was photographed wearing horns and body paint, feel betrayed that Trump has not stood by them as they face prosecution.

A number of Republican senators have praised the "excellent" case laid out by House Democrats, but most still appear unshaken in their intention to acquit the former president, with many stating they still believe there is not a constitutional basis for impeaching a president who is no longer in office.
