Moments before a wide array of speakers were set to hit the stage in New York City's Madison Square Garden to boost the fortunes of Donald Trump, a Republican Party strategist told CNN that the MAGA rally is a waste of time.

Speaking with CNN's Rahel Soloman, Doug Heye bluntly stated that, with only nine days before election day, time not spent in the crucial battleground states is a mistake that could come back to haunt the former president.

With scenes from inside and outside the arena appearing on the screen, Heye was asked about the wisdom of spending time in a state where Trump was clobbered in 2020.

"Whether you're talking about Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, I'd say time spent out of the seven key states that are the swing states that could turn this election by and large is wasted time," he told the host.

"Your time is better spent in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Nevada, Arizona et cetera, than it is in Texas or in Washington, D.C. or in New York," he elaborated. "But with this Trump event yes, it's gonna get a lot of coverage –– although a lot of people, especially young males, who Trump wants to win with big margins, will probably be watching football."
