Reacting to a rambling press conference on Tuesday by Donald Trump, the panel on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" buried the president for going to extremes to avoid additional scrutiny over his relationship with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
After days of criticism of his Department of Justice taking heat for trying to bury the so-called Epstein files, the president is now being accused of falling back on attacks on President Barack Obama with claims the former president committed treason.
With co-host Willie Geist pointing out that the accusations being made by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard — which Trump has glommed onto — having already been disproved by then-Senate Intel Chair Marco Rubio, the host observed Trump is obviously desperate.
"It's widely concluded and signed by Marco Rubio, who, let's remember, is the secretary of state under President Trump, he also has three other interim jobs, his was a bipartisan conclusion and what was happening here,' he explained. "It must be said this is, you know, President Trump trying to distract."
"We have seen for four days an effort, a flailing effort to try to turn the conversation away from the Jeffrey Epstein matter and this is what he settled on: it's 2016 all over again," he added.
Contributor Mike Barnicle added, "What we just saw a clip of is the sitting president of the United States of America talking about one of his predecessors, Barack Obama, and using the word treason. Yeah, that is so far beyond the pale."
