The Supreme Court of the United States agreed to issue a ruling on former President Donald Trump's presidential immunity claim, according to reports.
The high court will issue a ruling on whether Trump can be prosecuted on election interference-linked charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith.
While Trump argues a president needs blanket immunity to effectively serve, Smith argues — and the D.C. Circuit of Appeals agreed — that such power would undermine the foundations of democracy in the U.S.

The federal court case — which levies charges based on Trump's actions leading up to Jan. 6, 2021 — has been effectively put on hold as the former president's argument worked its way through the appeals court system.
The fate of the case hangs in the balance as Trump could theoretically order the Justice department to drop it should he regain the White House in 2025.
Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
