'It is illegal': Axed special counsel sues Trump

Yet another government official fired by President Donald Trump is fighting his termination.

Hampton Dellinger, a special counsel appointed by President Joe Biden, argues that Trump wrongfully terminated him as part of his broader purge of federal employees, Politico reported.

The law establishing the special counsel states that such attorneys are appointed to five-year terms and can only be terminated for "inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office," the report noted.

Dellinger made the case on Monday nothing in his record suggests such malfeasance.

“Since my arrival at OSC last year, I could not be more proud of all we have accomplished,” he said. “The agency’s work has earned praise from advocates for whistleblowers, veterans, and others. The effort to remove me has no factual nor legal basis — none — which means it is illegal.”
