Trump's judge wants to nail down trial schedule at Tuesday hearing: legal expert

A court hearing Tuesday in Miami for Donald Trump and his valet Walt Nauta is set to nail down the trial schedule, a legal analyst revealed Monday.

Judge Aileen Cannon is expected to address the Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA), specifically how the court will handle certain classified information.

But, according to NBC News legal analyst Lisa Rubin, Cannon on Monday issued a paperless order telling Trump and Nauta's legal teams that they should be prepared to discuss something that isn't on the official agenda: the trial schedule.

Trump petitioned the court last week, asking that all proceedings be delayed until after the 2024 election. If Trump is elected, he could then fire the special counsel and demand that all charges be dropped against him, or attempt to to pardon himself and associates of all charges, experts have said.

Specifically, Rubin said, the parties "should be ready to discuss the government’s proposed trial schedule and related deadlines and any 'particularized objections thereto' in light of the Speedy Trial Act, the Rules of Criminal Procedure, and the CIPA," tweeted Rubin.

Rubin has suspected that Cannon will issue a new scheduling order with a different trial date. She initially scheduled it to start in August.

Dave Aronberg, Florida state attorney for Palm Beach County, told MSNBC on Sunday that there is a chance that Cannon will agree to Trump's demand to delay the trial "indefinitely." If that happens, he said that the special counsel will likely appeal to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and might even ask that Cannon be removed from the case.
