"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg predicted Nikki Haley will eventually be another in a long line of conservatives who shredded their reputation by serving President Donald Trump.
The United Nations ambassador announced Tuesday she would step down after 17 months on the job, and she doused speculation she would challenge the president in the 2020 primaries.
"I will say I love her," said co-host Meghan McCain. "I've never had qualms about how much I love her. I know her. My birthday is coming up, they asked me my ideal birthday guest, I said her. If she ends up primarying President Trump, 'Girl, I'll run your campaign -- period.'"
McCain didn't believe Haley has ruled out running for president as soon as 2020, and co-host Abby Huntsman agreed she would be an appealing candidate.
"She does have a good temperament, and when you juxtapose that to the president of the United States that would be interesting," Huntsman said. "Speaking from just personal experience, because I have a dad that's working with the administration over in Russia, it's not an easy time to be in politics, and it's not an easy time to be serving this president."
Co-host Sunny Hostin said Haley might have retained her reputation despite serving in the Trump administration.
"She hasn't really come under fire the way a lot of his other appointees have," Hostin said. "She's sort of -- she's the only one in my mind that has left this administration smelling like a rose."
Goldberg wasn't so sure.
"Think about all the other people that have left the administration through the back door, and you're like, uh-huh," Goldberg said. "Wait a couple of weeks. We'll get an audiotape and know what goes on behind closed doors."
