Confusion engulfed Meta as staff struggled to keep up with 'shifting rules' about Ukraine war: report

The "fog of war" from Ukraine appears to have descended on Facebook and Instagram. Meta, parent company of the two social media platforms, last week reportedly took the highly unusual step of suspending some of the quality controls it implemented to ensure that posts from users in Russia, Ukraine and other Eastern European countries meet its rules.

The New York Times reports that the company's content monitors have been unable to keep up with "shifting rules about what kinds of posts were allowed about the war in Ukraine." Under the change, Meta temporarily stopped tracking whether its workers who scan Facebook and Instagram posts from those areas were accurately enforcing its content guidelines, six people with knowledge of the situation told the newspaper.

Experts explain the fundamental problem with the GOP’s ‘just drill more’ philosophy to reduce gas prices

House Republicans demanded this week that President Joe Biden "unleash American energy dominance." While it's unclear what exactly that means from a policy standpoint, the facts show that the problem with high gas prices comes not from government, or Russian sanctions, but from oil companies who aren't using what they have and they're prioritizing stock buybacks while scoring record profits.

The 2021 report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration showed that the oil that the United States gets from Russia was a small fraction (3.3 percent) of the entirety of the U.S. imports, totaling 72.6 million barrels. During the 2020 pandemic, due to lower demand, that import was even smaller, at 1.3 percent, which makes up 27.7 million barrels of crude oil.

But one company, run by just three people, is dominating the social media site.

They're heavily pushing special counsel John Durham's probe and the conspiracy theories surrounding it. They promote Trump, Mike Lindell, and now even Kyle Rittenhouse. "Conservative Brief has been cited repeatedly for publishing false claims," said Legum.

Washington Post writer Phil Bump noted that Russia has really fallen down on its job with propaganda and false flags in the run-up to the Ukraine invasion.
