Donald Trump Jr. has scrapped plans for a speaking tour of Australia after activists launched a massive campaign to have him banned from entering the country.
A Change.org petition that claimed “his visit is likely to be a magnet for far-right and neo-Nazi groups across Melbourne” had reached 21,725 signatures Wednesday.
Trump Jr. responded to the petition by saying, “The same disease of woke identity politics and cancel culture that’s crippled the US has clearly taken hold.”
But the Sydney Morning Herald reported that a visa had been granted Wednesday – before the cancellation was announced.
“It’s his choice whether he comes or not but there is no immigration impediment to him coming,” a spokesman for the country’s Home Affairs Minister told the newspaper.

Trump Jr.’s first speaking engagement had been scheduled for July 9.
Australian Member of Parliament Graham Perrett told Sky News that he had heard ticket sales were “tanking,” the Herald reported. Security costs for Trump Jr.’s visit were also said to have been sky-high.
“Ticket holders are urged to hold on to their tickets, with details of the rescheduled date to be confirmed in the coming days,” event organizer Turning Point Australia posted on the tour website.
