Musk not returning to government because no one 'wants him back': ex-GOP insider

Reacting to a half-hearted middle-of-the-night apology from Elon Musk to Donald Trump, a former Republican House member claimed on MSNBC that it probably won't mean he will be accepted back in the White House.

During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," ex-Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL) told the hosts that Musk had already worn out his welcome at the White House and little the billionaire can say now will change that fact.

Asked by co-host Mika Brzezinski about Musk's "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far," mea culpa, Curbelo blew it off.

"Does it have any impact?" Brzezinski asked.

"I don't think so," her guest quickly replied. "I think a lot of congressional Republicans have kind of dismissed this as Elon Musk getting emotional, getting a little too heated about his breakup with the White House and, frankly, I don't think anyone at the White House wants him back."

"Elon Musk, while a very good political ally for this president, did create a lot of chaos in the White House, did overstep his authority and get into other people's turf," he recalled. "Everyone remembers that Cabinet meeting where [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio and [Transportation Secretary] Sean Duffy pushed back in front of everyone and and president took their side."

"So I just think, you know, even though Elon may want to make peace, everyone's kind of happy to see these two go their separate ways," he concluded.
