Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis opened up on her birthday about the racist threats and attacks she has faced over her prosecution of Donald Trump and his allies.
Willis has overseen a lengthy investigation of Trump's efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia, which led to the former president's indictment along with 18 co-defendants on racketeering and other charges, and she spoke Tuesday evening at a closed-door fundraiser celebrating her 52nd birthday, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“If you are a leader, you’re going to be attacked," Willis said. "There are some days I’m human and I’m really angry or I’m hurt that somebody would tell a bold-faced lie on me."
Willis pointed to Trump's recent claim that she was involved in a relationship with a young gang members she was prosecuting as one incendiary example.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
“I think the craziest is I was sleeping with a gang-banger," Willis said, as the crowd reacted with laughter. "I’m like, a 17-year-old? Like, what? I like them old! What are you talking about?”
The district attorney did not mention Trump by name or identify any other specific case her office was prosecuting at the private event, which cost donors between $250 to $3,300 to attend.
