WATCH: Trump says he wished the GOP had jammed through Kavanaugh's nomination without hearing from Ford
President Donald Trump on Wednesday told reporters that he wished Republican Senators had rammed through Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination without bothering to hear from Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of trying to rape her when they were both teenagers.
While talking with the press after arriving at the United Nations, Trump lamented that the GOP had been so accommodating to Ford instead of putting Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court without hearing her testimony.
"I think the Senate Republicans couldn't be nicer in the way they're handling this," he said. "They could have pushed it through two-and-a-half weeks ago and you would not be talking about it now, which is frankly what I would have preferred."
Trump also said that while he was "okay" with Republicans showing Ford respect, "I think I would have pushed [a vote on Kavanaugh] forward much faster."
At the end of his remarks, the president ranted against Democrats for playing a "con game" with Kavanaugh's nomination.
"They go into a back room and they talk with each other and they laugh at what they're getting away with!" Trump fumed. "It's a con game -- and that's what they play. And it's the only thing they do well."
