Ex-prosecutor on MSNBC unloads on Trump’s lawyers for desperately 'making stuff up' to undermine Mueller
President Donald Trump's TV lawyers have lost credibility as attorneys, a former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York explained on Friday.
Speaking with MSNBC anchor Kristen Welker, Pace Law School distinguished fellow in criminal justice Mimi Rocah suggested special counsel Robert Mueller would simply ignore the demands of Trump's defense team.
"The president's legal team has laid the groundwork, politically at least, to say no to an interview, and increasingly we've seen Rudy Giuliani and Jay Sekulow become more aggressive in terms of their attacks against the special counsel, really with Rudy Giuliani leading the charge on that," Welker noted.
"I don't think Mueller is listening to what Giuliani or Sekulow are saying on TV or on radio, and now they're hosting a radio show, the Guiliani/Sekulow show, they're filling in for Sean Hannity," Rocah suggested.
"They're not even pretending to be real lawyers anymore," she added.
"I think with Giuliani and Sekulow now, what they're trying to do, they're trying to put pressure on Mueller to wrap it up," Rocah continued.
"So Giuliani once again is just making stuff up and trying to put this false deadline and pressure on Mueller," she explained. "And you're right, it has an impact on the public, but I don't think, at the end of the day, it will have an impact on how Mueller is doing his investigation."
