'Desperate and alone' Giuliani facing the 'abyss' after tying himself to Trump: biographer

In a column for the New York Times, Rudy Giuliani's biographer said the man once known as "America's Mayor" has become a shell of his old self as he faces a rash of criminal investigations and lawsuits for his efforts to protect and defend Donald Trump -- who also faces a myriad of legal problems of his own.

On the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack -- a day that Giuliani recently called "... the worst day of my life and in some ways, you know, the greatest day of my life," -- biographer Andrew Kirtzman, who wrote Giuliani: The Rise and Tragic Fall of America’s Mayor,” claims that the former mayor is facing the "abyss" with his reputation in tatters.

Dem governor jeered for discussing civility at Kansas State Fair

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly and her challenger, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, showed up for two different debates Saturday morning at the Kansas State Fair.

The 90-minute exchange was an opportunity for Kelly to lean into her four-year record as governor. A longtime state legislator, she dug into the opportunity to explain her accomplishments and deep policy knowledge. Schmidt, while serving more than 10 years as A.G., took the opportunity to present a hardnosed conservative case. While taking the occasional dig at Kelly, he framed the election as a referendum on President Joe Biden.

The Iowa presidential caucuses are still a long way off, but potential presidential candidates and other national politicians are visiting the state ahead of the Nov. 7 midterm election.

No top politicians have officially announced plans to run for president in 2024. President Joe Biden has indicated he plans to run for re-election, but has not launched a campaign. Former President Donald Trump, who Biden defeated in the 2020 election, has also not said if he’s running again.

Still, Iowa Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections have been joined on the campaign trail by a flurry of national politicians, some of who may be looking at the 2024 caucuses. Iowa Democrats, in contrast, have seen far fewer high-ranking visitors.

Democrats have high hopes as midterms campaign kicks off with first mail-in ballots sent to voters

The midterm congressional campaign officially began Friday with Democrats facing a much-improved electoral environment amid a string of political wins, a strengthening economy and widespread anger over loss of abortion rights. North Carolina became the first state in the nation to send out mail-in ballots to voters, meaning the first votes for the closely divided House of Representatives and Senate will be cast in the coming days. With generic ballot polling suggesting Democrats have a narrow edge among voters, President Joe Biden’s party has a solid chance of holding the Senate and limiting i...

Trump's 'terrible summer' is making Republicans behave like 'complete idiots': MSNBC analyst

On Friday's edition of MSNBC's "The Beat," The Atlantic staff writer Mark Leibovich outlined how former President Donald Trump is helping to destroy the Republican Party's natural advantage in a midterm under a Democratic presidency, and put their odds of a congressional majority on the line.

This comes as Republicans are already coping with a sharp dropoff in political donations, at the very moment of the campaign cycle where having the funding to stay on the air is most important.
