Georgia elections bill backs ballot inspections and GBI investigations

ATLANTA — Georgia Republicans introduced a broad elections bill Wednesday that would enable public ballot inspections, restrict nonprofit funding and empower the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate fraud allegations. The proposals are the next wave of attempts to change election rules following Democrat Joe Biden’s narrow victory in Georgia in 2020 over Republican Donald Trump. Last year, the General Assembly passed an expansive bill that limited drop boxes, required more ID for absentee voting and allowed state takeovers of local election boards. This year’s legislation focus...

Kraken lawyer Sidney Powell vows her Texas disciplinary hearing will be ‘eye-opening': report

The State Bar of Texas is exploring disciplinary action against one of the most prominent attorneys pushing Donald Trump's "big lie" of election fraud after receiving multiple complaints.

“Beginning in or about November of 2020[,] respondent filed multiple federal lawsuits in different jurisdictions (including the District Court of Arizona, the Northern District of Georgia, the Eastern District of Michigan, and the Eastern District of Wisconsin) alleging, inter alia, election fraud has occurred in the national presidential election in 2020,” the lawsuit noted. “Respondent had no reasonable basis to believe the lawsuits she filed were not frivolous.”

Experts explain the fundamental problem with the GOP’s ‘just drill more’ philosophy to reduce gas prices

House Republicans demanded this week that President Joe Biden "unleash American energy dominance." While it's unclear what exactly that means from a policy standpoint, the facts show that the problem with high gas prices comes not from government, or Russian sanctions, but from oil companies who aren't using what they have and they're prioritizing stock buybacks while scoring record profits.

The 2021 report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration showed that the oil that the United States gets from Russia was a small fraction (3.3 percent) of the entirety of the U.S. imports, totaling 72.6 million barrels. During the 2020 pandemic, due to lower demand, that import was even smaller, at 1.3 percent, which makes up 27.7 million barrels of crude oil.

This conservative is thanking God every day that Biden is president – here’s why

Bulwark columnist and podcaster Mona Charen penned a column this week highlighting the short memories some appear to have of the politics in previous years.

In normal times, the idea of a political leader that is "fine" would frustrate each side pressing for change. But as Charen explains, calm, sane and rational leadership is reassuring, particularly as the world faces off against Russia.

Corruption is all Ukraine got when they asked Donald Trump for help: Ali Velshi

MSNBC's Ali Velshi drew a straight line between Donald Trump's extortion scheme against Ukraine and Russia's invasion.

The former president was impeached for the first time for trying to pressure the country's newly elected president Volodymyr Zelenskyy into investigating Joe Biden by withholding military aid as Russian president Vladimir Putin threatened Ukraine, and Velshi said the scheme was directly related to the bloody 2022 war.

Right-wing podcast host claims on Donald Trump's app that Americans want a president willing to say the N-word

White nationalist provocateur Nick Fuentes said on his podcast this week that was posted to former President Donald Trump's "Truth Social" propaganda platform that Trump is the right-wing’s “hero” because of his racist comments and flagrant xenophobia.

Fuentes represents the extreme fringe – albeit a loud and well-monied one – of the American conservative movement. His ilk is responsible for harmful legislation like Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill as well as efforts to outlaw abortion. And while his branded message is indeed dangerous and exceptionally toxic, it would be unwise to pretend that he and his followers do not exist. That he was approved to post content to Trump's app is even more disturbing.

If US reached a deal with Venezuela on oil, would it have an impact on gas prices?

WASHINGTON — The United States is exploring a deal with Venezuela for oil amid soaring energy prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But that doesn’t mean Americans will see an immediate impact on gas prices at the pump, experts say. Even if President Joe Biden chooses to ease sanctions on its oil sector, Venezuela won’t be able to turn the spigots back on overnight. Biden announced on Tuesday that the United States would ban the import of all Russian oil and gas over its war in Ukraine. Last year, the United States imported roughly 675,000 barrels of Russian oil a day — the equivalent of ...
