'One idiot at a time' bankrupted for spewing lies to help Donald Trump: Morning Joe
MSNBC

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough placed Donald Trump's $83.3 million penalty in the E. Jean Carroll case in line with other staggering payouts by his political allies.

A jury ordered Trump to pay the penalty to Carroll for sexually abusing and then defaming her while serving as president, after a previous jury last year found him liable for both actions and awarded her $5 million for defamatory statements after he left office, and the "Morning Joe" host said courts had repeatedly imposed consequences lies aired by the ex-president and his pals.

"We talked about it over the last several years, it was almost like the laws of gravity were suspended and people could say whatever they wanted as it pertained to speech," Scarborough said. "You see the InfoWars guy is bankrupted by lying about the Sandy Hook parents. When he did that, you were like, who -- wait, people can do that in America? But they can't do that in America. When Rudy Giuliani lied about two black women who were trying to help Georgia and be public servants, he lied about them – just made up a lie about them. You sat there and went, wait a second. Can you do that in America? Is that -- I didn't think you could do that. Ended up you couldn't. He is going bankrupt now."

"Then you have the same thing with Donald Trump," he continued. "I mean, yeah, and Fox News, because of former hosts on Fox News. Then Donald Trump thinking, well, 'I can defame a woman, I can keep defaming a woman, I can be found guilty of sexually abusing her, I can still lie about her, I can still defame her, I can still say terrible things about her because I'm Donald Trump, and the jury, finally, finally, came in and said, 'Yeah, you're Donald Trump, and you're going to owe E. Jean Carroll $83 million.'"

"So we see, you know, one idiot at a time. I've got to say it, one idiot at a time, do they not know there are defamation laws in America?" Scarborough added. "One idiot at a time, whether you're talking the InfoWars guy, Rudy Giuliani, now Donald Trump, you know. They've screwed around and found out what happens when you defame people over and over again."
