Update: Apparently the song is about the evil record executives. Which doesn't, considering the make-up of the record industry's top honchos, make a bit of difference to the awesomeness of my title. Especially not when it was written in the 70s. If it makes the Wilson sisters feel any better, I suspect record executives treat all musicians like they just fell off the turnip truck.
What does it say about the Republican Party when it takes great care to prey upon the elderly to fill its coffers with bloodsucking sham organizations like the Black Republican PAC (see my exclusive post on how these orgs funnel money to wingnut welfare businesses).

As for the title of this post. Well, apparently Liz Phair is touring and performing the entire album "Exile in Guyville" in order. This tour is coming nowhere near Austin. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I can't go see this. On the other, I don't have to admit that I paid money for that. So a mixed blessing.
Everyone has a favorite song off that album, usually of the explicitly sexual variety. I like this one, though:
Thinking back on the speech from last night, the thing that stands out is that the entire case for John McCain's candidacy has become John McCain. John McCain isn't the right man for this moment in history, this is the right moment in history for John McCain. To call the speech non-partisan misses the point - it was intensely partisan towards McCain and his mythology.
John McCain is going to dodder on stage and give a repeat of Sarah Palin's speech from last night (Summary: Kids, get off my lawn! My lawn called....America.), and so it will be easy to miss the real news about he who knows how to keep it real, Republican-style.
Ezra points out that the constant mockery of Obama's time spent community organizing is a racial dogwhistle, which sounds about right. He spent time digging around in the surefire pool of racial resentment that is any group of black people larger than three that aren't wearing sports uniforms, meaning, of course, that he was avoiding Real Work and probably smoking his crack rock or working on his recipe for chitlins.
The GOP's white sheet is showing (again). There's a reason the RNC has hit a record low in black attendees at its convention.
It's not that I think that any of these are particularly good arguments, it's that the McCain folks have decided to use every fact that makes Palin such a weird pick a slam on Obama.
