According to an exclusive report from Business Insider, billionaire Peter Thiel has been accused by a far-right provocateur of being an FBI informant.
Thiel, who was an early supporter of Donald Trump and provided financial backing for GOP Senate candidates J.D. Vance, who won, and Arizona's Blake Masters, who lost, has been targeted by conservative Charles Johnson who is claiming the tech executive has been working with Los Angeles-based FBI agent Johnathan Buma as a "confidential human source (CHS)."
According to the report, Johnson, a long-time associate of Thiel's who has also received financial backing from the billionaire, issued a statement to Business Insider making the bombshell accusation.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"A source with knowledge of Thiel's relationship to the FBI, whose identity is known to Insider but who insisted on anonymity, corroborated Johnson's account, telling Insider that Johnson brokered a relationship between Thiel and Buma. Insider was able to confirm through an additional source that the FBI added Thiel to its formal roster of registered informants," the report states before adding, "Another source close to Thiel told Insider that while they could not confirm that Thiel was a CHS, Thiel did speak to Buma occasionally."
That source claimed that anything Thiel may have told Buma was the result of the distance he has been putting between himself with the former president and the MAGA movement.
The report adds that the information he reportedly passed on to the FBI concerned "foreign contacts and Silicon Valley intrigue," which was "validated" or "cross-checked against other sources by his case agents and their colleagues."
Business Insider is reporting that Thiel has not responded to questions about the accusations and that representatives for the tech billionaire stopped responding to inquiries after being informed the report was about his alleged FBI connections.
