As Fox News host reported breaking news about a police officer who died while on duty on Friday morning, host Steve Doocy seemed unable to suppress a smile.
"Steve, we just learned that the family of this officer who was killed has been notified," Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt as Doocy's expression changed from a frown to a smile.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly ignored a Muslim father speaking at the Democratic National Convention whose son was killed fighting for the U.S. and instead aired photos of ISIS fighters and commercials attacking Hillary Clinton over the terrorist attacks in Benghazi.
Speaking at the DNC on Thursday, Khizr Khan explained that his son was killed by a car bomb fighting in Iraq for the U.S. Armed Forces in 2004. Kahn also held up a copy of the U.S. Constitution and challenged GOP nominee Donald Trump to read it.
But viewers of Fox News only briefly saw Khan in a split screen without audio as Brit Hume and Kelly discussed Trump. Kelly then cut to a commercial blaming Hillary for the attacks in Benghazi while Kahn was visible in a split screen. After returning from commercial, viewers saw images of ISIS and a segment warning about the Islamic state.
As Media Matters noted, Kelly did find time at the end of her program to air several minutes of Katy Perry performing at the convention.

Thank you! Thank you! It's such an honor to be here tonight.
I'm here as a proud American… a proud Democrat… a proud mother… and tonight in particular, a very, very proud daughter.
Marc and I almost can't believe it, but our daughter Charlotte is nearly two years old. She loves Elmo… she loves blueberries… and above all, she loves Facetiming with Grandma. My mom can be about to give a speech or walk on stage for a debate. It doesn't matter. She'll drop everything for a few minutes of blowing kisses and reading "Chugga Chugga Choo Choo" with her granddaughter.
Our son Aidan is just five and a half weeks old. Thankfully, he's healthy and thriving – and well, we're biased, but we think he's just about the cutest baby in the world – a view I'm pretty sure my mom shares.
And every day I spend as Charlotte and Aidan's mother, I think about my own mother – my wonderful, thoughtful, hilarious mother.
My earliest memory is my mom picking me up after I'd fallen down, giving me a big hug, and reading me Goodnight Moon.
From that moment… to this one… every single memory I have of my mother is that – whatever else may be happening in her life – she's always, always there for me.
Every soccer and softball game. Every piano and dance recital. Sundays at our Methodist church and local library. Countless Saturdays spent finding shapes in the clouds. Making up stories about what we'd do if we ever met a triceratops – in my opinion, the friendliest dinosaur, though my mom would always remind me that, friendly or not, it's still a dinosaur. I was obsessed with dinosaurs. The day my parents took me to Dinosaur National Park, I didn't think life could get any better.
Whenever my mother was away for work – which thankfully didn't happen very often – she left notes for me to open every day she was gone – all stacked neatly in a special drawer, each with a date on the front so I'd know which one to open on which day. When she went to France to learn about their childcare system, one was all about the Eiffel Tower. Another was about the ideas she hoped to bring home to help the kids of Arkansas. I treasured each and every one. They were another reminder that I was always in her thoughts and in her heart.
Growing up, conversations around our dinner table would start with what I learned in school that day. I remember one week talking every night about a book that had captured my imagination, "A Wrinkle in Time." Only then would we talk about what my parents were working on – education, health care – whatever was consuming their days and keeping them up at night. I loved that my parents expected me to have opinions and be able to back them up with facts. I never once doubted that they cared about my thoughts and ideas. And I always, always knew how deeply they loved me.
That feeling – being valued and loved – that's something my mother wants for every child. It is the calling of her life.
My parents raised me to know how lucky I was – to never have to worry about food on the table, good schools to go to, a safe neighborhood to play in. And they taught me to care about what happens in our world – and to do whatever I could to change what frustrated me and felt wrong. They taught me that's the responsibility that comes with being smiled on by fate. I know my kids are a bit young – but I'm already trying to instill those same values in them.
There's something else my mother taught me: public service is about service.
And as her daughter, I've had a special window into how she serves.
I've seen her holding the hands of mothers who are struggling to feed their kids or get them the health care they need – my mother promising to do everything she could to help.
I've seen her right after those conversations, getting straight to work – figuring out what she could do, who she could call, how fast she could get results. She always feels like there isn't a moment to lose – because she knows that for that mom, for that family, there's not.
And I've seen her at the low points – like the summer of 1994. Several people this week have mentioned her fight for universal health care. I saw it up close. It was bruising and exhausting. She fought her heart out… and she lost. For me, then 14 years old, it was pretty hard to watch. But my mom – she was amazing. She took a little time to replenish her spirits. Family movie nights definitely helped – Dad, as you heard, liked Police Academy… my mom and I loved Pride and Prejudice. And then, she got right back to work – because she thought she could still make a difference for kids.
People ask me all the time how she does it. How she keeps going amid the sound and fury of politics.
Here's how.
It's because she never forgets who she's fighting for.
She's worked to make it easier for foster kids to be adopted. For our 9/11 first responders to get the health care they deserve. For women around the world to be safe, to be treated with dignity, to have more opportunities.
Fights like these – they're what keep her going. They grab her heart and her conscience, and they never let go.
That's who my mom is – a listener and a doer, a woman driven by compassion, by faith, by a fierce sense of justice and a heart full of love.
So this November, I'm voting for a woman who is my role model as a mother and as an advocate. A woman who has spent her whole life working for children and families.
I'm voting for the progressive who will protect our planet from climate change and our communities from gun violence. Who will reform our criminal justice system… and who knows that women's rights are human rights – and LGBT rights are human rights – here at home and around the world.
I'm voting for a fighter who never, ever gives up… and who believes we can do better, when we come together and work together.
I hope that one day my children will be as proud of me as I am of my mother. I'm so grateful to be her daughter. I'm so grateful that she's Charlotte and Aidan's grandmother. She makes me proud every single day.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told reporters on Thursday that some of the speakers at the Democratic National Convention made his so mad he wanted to "hit" them "so hard."
ABC News reported on the former reality TV star's outburst, which came during a press conference.
"You know what I wanted to. I wanted to hit a couple of those speakers so hard," Trump said. "I would have hit them. No, no. I was going to hit them, I was all set and then I got a call from a highly respected governor."
It appears that vice presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)'s spot-on imitation of the multiply bankrupted business tycoon particularly got under his skin. Trump never named Kaine but mentioned a "little guy" who said mean things about him.
"I was gonna hit one guy in particular, a very little guy," Trump said. "I was gonna hit this guy so hard his head would spin and he wouldn't know what the hell happened."
Trump has been acting increasingly erratic as the days of the DNC go by.
At a series of increasingly unhinged press conferences, Trump has urged Russian hackers to undermine his rival Clinton's campaign, gotten confused about which state Tim Kaine is from and directly contradicted himself repeatedly about his friendship with Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin.
"This isn’t normal behavior from a major American politician," wrote Ezra Klein at Vox. "It’s not even particularly normal behavior from Donald Trump. After he picked Mike Pence, empowered campaign chair Paul Manafort, and gave a structured convention speech, there looked to be a chance that Trump was unveiling a new, more sober persona for the general election. But he can’t do it. He can’t suppress his own mania for even a week."

U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will tell the Democratic National Convention on Thursday that Americans must work together to conquer domestic and foreign challenges that threaten to tear the country apart.
In the biggest speech of her more than 25-year-old career in the public eye, Clinton will sound the themes that will propel her campaign against Republican Donald Trump in the Nov. 8 election.
"America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart. Bonds of trust and respect are fraying," Clinton will say in accepting the Democratic nomination, according to excerpts of her speech.
"And just as with our founders there are no guarantees. It truly is up to us. We have to decide whether we’re going to work together so we can all rise together," she will say.
As she prepared to deliver her speech, sources familiar with the matter said the FBI is investigating a cyber intrusion at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that may be related to an earlier hack at the Democratic National Committee.
The breach and its potential ties to Russian hackers are likely to sharpen concern, so far unproven, that Moscow is trying to meddle in the election. The issue has clouded this week's convention in Philadelphia.
'THREATS AND TURBULENCE'
In her speech Clinton will say she will work to create more opportunities and more good jobs with rising wages, and confront stark choices in battling "threats and turbulence" around the world and at home.
"No wonder people are anxious and looking for reassurance - looking for steady leadership," she will say.
It is Clinton's turn in the spotlight after days of electrifying speeches by party heavyweights such as President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama praising Clinton and cautioning that Trump would be dangerous and divisive.
It will be a difficult and high-stakes task for the guarded Clinton, 68, known to be a more effective politician in small gatherings than on big stages.
Clinton, vying to be the first woman elected president in U.S. history, needs to make a convincing argument she can bring about change while representing the legacy of Obama, who is nearing the end of his second four-year term with high approval ratings.
She must make inroads with voters who find her untrustworthy or unlikable, as her favorability ratings in polls have hit all-time lows.
In his speech, Obama offered an optimistic view of the United States that he contrasted with Trump's vision of a country in crisis.
UPBEAT MESSAGE
Clinton was likely to offer a similarly upbeat message, drawing on an idea that has driven her throughout her career, that all Americans should be given the chance to fulfill their potential, a campaign aide said.
Trump, a 70-year-old New York businessman who has never held political office, is running just ahead of Clinton in a RealClearPolitics average of recent national opinion polls. They both garner high "unpopularity" ratings.
The Republican nominee has hammered Clinton as untrustworthy, and Republicans depict her as a Washington insider who would continue what they see as the failed policies of Obama's presidency.
Trump rejected the optimism voiced at the Democratic convention, saying Democrats were talking about "a world that doesn't exist" and papering over Clinton's problems and mistakes.
"I propose a different vision for America, one where we can break up Washington's rigged system, and empower all Americans to achieve their dreams. In our vision, we will put America First," he said in a statement.
Chelsea Clinton, who spent eight years of her childhood in the White House when Bill Clinton was president, will introduce her mother on Thursday evening.
Rosa Patlan Harris , 70, a retired postal worker and delegate from Texas, said she thinks Clinton can measure up to the high expectations for her speech.
"I think she can handle it," said Patlan Harris, a long-time supporter of the former secretary of state. "You know she's tough."
MILESTONE FOR WOMEN
The Democratic gathering began on a note of discord on Monday, with backers of Bernie Sanders, the U.S. senator from Vermont who lost the nomination to Clinton, noisily booing the very mention of her name.
But protests inside the arena calmed after the tumultuous first day. After two nights of speeches meant to unify the party and show a more personal and warmer side of Clinton, the third night featured a sharp turn to attacking Trump.
Taking aim at Trump's campaign promise to "Make America Great Again," Obama said: "America is already great. America is already strong. And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump."
Trump, a former reality TV star, has portrayed the country as being under siege from illegal immigrants, crime and terrorism and as losing influence in the world. He has proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country and a wall along the border with Mexico to keep illegal immigrants out.
Biden called Trump an opportunist with no clue about how to make America great. Vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, a U.S. senator from Virginia, said Trump was a "a one-man wrecking crew" who could not be trusted in the Oval Office.
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent media mogul, attacked Trump's history of bankruptcies and lawsuits and called his presidential bid a "con."
Joyce Lalonde, a retired elementary school teacher and delegate from Michigan at the Democratic convention, was eagerly anticipating Clinton's address as a milestone for women.
Lalonde, 68, recalled how she and her fellow female teachers once protested her school district's requirement that women wear dresses or skirts and how times had changed for women.
"It was a man's world!" Lalonde said. "Men didn't have to go through what women had to."

The National Rifle Association's video announcing its endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump features multiple appearances by a man who has devoted much of the last four years trying to convince the world that the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary was a hoax.
Media Matters reported Wednesday that Vince Resor -- a strident gun rights enthusiast and conspiracy buff -- is heavily featured in the video.
Resor is notorious as Sandy Hook "truther," which means that he believes the U.S. government staged a phony shooting in Newtown, CT on December 14, 2012 in order to initiate a program of weapon confiscation.
He has harassed grieving families whose children were killed in the massacre, according to reports. He has also made multiple social media posts where he accuses the Connecticut families of being government-paid actors.
"What is really amazing here is not how despicable this is," he wrote in January, 2013, "but how unremarkable it is to learn that the mainstream media deceives us with propaganda to advance their cause. Disgusting."
Resor has also declared that Pres. Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans to suspend the 2016 elections in order to remain in power indefinitely.
On his personal blog, Resor said he supports racial profiling of black and Muslim Americans.
“If you wear a towel around your head, you get searched," he said. "If your crack is exposed because your pants are too low, you get searched.”
In the NRA video, Resor said, "Gun-free zones have cost us a lot of lives and it’s time to put an end to that.”
Later he warned darkly that if Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton becomes president, she will fill the Supreme Court with liberal judges.
"America won’t be America," said. "The Supreme Court can make or break the country for the next generation.”
He is the last person featured in the video, saying, "Keep your foot on the gas, Donald Trump. This is no time to let up. We’re sliding down the slippery slope and it’s time to put the hammer down and get the job done.”

On the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will give her speech accepting the nomination and vowing to carry the fight to the Republican Party's nominee Donald Trump.
Other speakers will include first-ever transgender delegate Sarah McBride, Democratic House leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA), the nominee's daughter Chelsea Clinton and more.

Fox Business correspondent Lou Dobbs, who is tasked by the network to explain the science of economics to Fox viewers, denied that white people are the majority culture in the United States. Dobbs, who charges thousands of dollars for his expertise on American culture and politics, was engaged Wednesday in a discussion on Lou Dobbs Tonight with correspondent Juan Williams and radio host Mark Simone during network coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
The three engaged over the decision to drop all further charges in the Freddie Gray homicide trial in Baltimore. It has been a right-wing talking point that the Baltimore police charged in Gray's death were being "railroaded" by a zealous prosecutor eager to curry political favor in the black community. Gray's broken neck in the back of a police transport was ruled a homicide by authorities, although the decision to drop all further charges means that no one will be held culpable for Gray's death.
Dobbs insisted that if a hypothetical person follows a police officer's instructions, does not resist, and doesn't carry a gun, that person will not have a negative outcome in an encounter with the police. "You have got to respect law enforcement first and foremost," he said. He explained to Williams that "nearly all" the police shootings have involved "armed men."
Williams began to explain that in a recent case in Minnesota (referring to Philando Castile), the suspect had told the police officer that he had a gun on his person and yet, had still been shot, but Dobbs cut Williams off before he could expand on the point. Dobbs then changed the subject to Black Lives Matter.
"Looking at Black Lives Matter demonstrating here [at the DNC]. Black Lives Matter is effectively a hate group, and it's discriminatory by its very name," Dobbs said.
Then, before Williams could answer, Dobbs said, "What do you think, Mark?"
At that point, Simone took the question about BLM and turned it into a question about cities that need to be "cleaned up."
"Chicago. Baltimore. Detroit -- what do these cities all have in common?" Simone let the question hang before he resumed. "One party rule," he said. "I hate to say it, Democratic party rule, and they've just not been great on crime and cleaning up the cities."
When Williams was allowed to resume speaking, he returned to Dobbs' question. "When it comes to Black Lives Matter, Lou, I think people are trying to say in addition to the idea that white lives and upper income lives matter, poor black lives do matter. That's not a racist statement."
Dobbs dismissed Williams. "I think that shorthand is not applicable in discussions where we're talking about the worth and the value of life. In this country is -- always celebrated, it's a fundamental value, the value of life. And that means all lives, all Americans. And I wouldn't tolerate something called White Lives Matter."
"Well no, but whites are the majority," Williams said.
"Well, no, I don't think we are, really," Dobbs shot back.
"Yeah, you are the majority," Williams insisted.
"I don't think we are, but the fact of the matter is -- "
"I think you are."
"Well OK, I'll be glad to be part of the minority or a majority, as long as I am an American," Dobbs concluded.
Williams agreed with Dobbs everyone should get to be an American, but he tried, again, to bring Dobbs around to the idea that it is dangerous for black men in America. "I think we are arguing over statistics," he said. "There is statistical evidence that if you're a poor, unarmed black man you're more likely to get shot..."
Dobbs, at this point, cut him off. "But statistically, that's not true." After Williams cited one of the studies that shows how black men are statistically more likely to die at the hands of police than white men, Dobbs claimed to have access to another study. When Williams began to discredit Dobbs' research, Dobbs waved his hand at him and said, "Oh please. We're not going to bore the audience to death."
For the record, white (non-Hispanic) people comprise approximately 72 percent of the 2015 United States population, according to the United States Census Bureau. (Clarification added at 4:17 p.m. Census statistics at the link embedded in previous sentence show that in 2015, 77.1 percent of people identified as white "alone.")

Protesters at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia shouted down civil rights icon John Lewis while he was being interviewed by MSNBC's Tamron Hall on Thursday.
Although the Georgia congressman's introduction was met with cheers, things quickly turned ugly when Hall asked about Hillary Clinton's historic nomination.
"We have elected a person of color for two terms," Lewis said. "He broke barriers. President Barack Obama did it in his way. And tonight, this night, we're going to nominate a woman."
"She sucks!" a protester yelled, followed by chants of "She stole it!"
Fighting to speak over the demonstrators, Lewis continued: "I'm convinced she will be elected the next president of the United States."
"We're making progress tonight," he added. "Her nomination is going to inspire young women, young girls, young men all over America and all over the world."
"Bullshit!" someone shouted.
"I can't ignore there are a couple of people in our audience that have yelled things," Hall said, pointing to the crowd. "Some of them have been ugly and vitriolic, others have been their beliefs in democracy and that Bernie Sanders does not get the shake that they believe that he deserves."
"You were beaten within an inch of your life," she observed. "You've seen democracy or the battle for civil rights at its ugliest. How do you communicate to those who choose to speak civilly and not violently toward you here that there's something greater at risk here if Donald Trump becomes the president in your eyes?"
"I think it's so important that we recognize the fact that we win some and sometimes we lose some," Lewis replied. "But we never give up, we never become bitter or hostile. I was beaten, bloodied, left unconscious fighting for the right to vote."
"But I never became bitter, I never lost hope."

A reporter for Sky News, the British sister network of Fox News, came under fire this week for callously ending a broadcast from a church by noting that he could have killed all of the worshippers if he were a terrorist.
A video clip first posted on Twitter by Bobby Faghihi shows the Sky News correspondent standing outside a church following a terrorist attack on another church in Normandy, France.
"There are no obvious signs of security at the church door," the reporter explains. "In fact, this sign at the church door says everybody is welcome."
To demonstrate the security flaw, the reporter enters the church and then reemerges.
"There are about a dozen worshippers in there and one priest," he notes. "If I was a terrorist, I could have killed them all."
The remarks were met with condemnation on Twitter.

Tony Schwartz, who was the ghostwriter for Donald Trump's book The Art of The Deal, urged the Republican presidential candidate's supporters to reverse course on Thursday.
"The reason I'm with you is to be able to warn the American people that this man is not the man [his supporters] think he is," he told CNN host Chris Cuomo. "He's the enemy. He is the 1 percent. He's the one-billionth of 1 percent. He's the person who wants to get all of their money and as a consequence, leave them without the very power they don't have."
Schwartz has been publicly criticizing Trump in recent weeks, prompting the former reality TV star to demand that the writer return all of the royalties he has accrued since the book's publication in 1987.
As The New Yorker reported, Schwartz's deal with Trump has allowed him to take 50 percent of the book's royalties. But Schwartz has expressed regret for what he described as his role in contributing to Trump's popularity.
"I tried to write a book when I was 35 years old about a guy who was a small real estate developer with an instinct for promotion," he said on Thursday. "In a million years I would never imagine he would be someone who would run for president."

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) drew a line with CNN hosts Alisyn Camerota and Chris Cuomo on Thursday for holding Donald Trump to a "different standard" than other presidential candidates.
Asked what Hillary Clinton would do about the tension between police black communities and police, Cummings argued that she would strike a balance between supporting law enforcement and holding them accountable.
"What Donald Trump has done has tried to divide us," he explained. "He puts the police in one corner, the community in another corner."
"You all spend a lot of time talking about Donald Trump," Cummings continued. "I see Donald Trump as someone who is about the business of destruction and distraction. Destruction with regard to people who run against him and their reputations; distractions from the things that affect people on a day to day basis: health care, education, things of that nature."
CNN's Cuomo countered that Democrats were "bashing" Trump instead of promoting Clinton's policies.
"Especially when it comes to this latest wrinkle, this gift that you guys say he gave you about asking Russians to hack Hillary Clinton's emails to release them," the CNN host charged. "You guys are calling it treason. He went on TV this morning and said, 'I was being sarcastic. This is the Democrats trying to frame me as a bad guy.'"
"We have to stop excusing him when he says these nasty things," Cummings interrupted. "We really do. Because words do matter."
"But is it treason?" Cuomo pressed.
"I'll let the FBI and others decide that," the Maryland Democrat remarked. "My point is -- and by the way, no matter what it is, it should not have been said. If I did that, I'd be out of office or in jail."
"And he should not be held to some different standard," Cummings added. "I don't know how we get this through [to the media]. We're talking about the president of the United States of America going around saying these kind of things. That's ridiculous."

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Thursday that he was not being serious when he invited Russian hackers to launch a cyber-attack against his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, The Hill reported.
"Of course I'm being sarcastic," Trump argued in footage aired on Fox News. "They don't even know if it's Russia, if it's China, if it's somebody else. Who knows who it is?"
Trump set off another round of criticism when he said Russia would be "rewarded by our press" if hackers dug into Clinton's email server during a press conference.
"The real problem is what was said on those emails from the Democratic National Committee," he told Fox. "It's disgraceful. They talk about religion. They talk about race. They talk about all sorts of things, including women."
Trump neglected to mention his own habit of "talking about women," including Fox host Megyn Kelly, earlier in the campaign.
