Fox News pundit can't decide if Romney is worse than liberals: 'Democrats want to destroy the country immediately'
Fox News contributor Dan Bongino lashed out at Senator-elect Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Wednesday because he questioned President Donald Trump's character.
In an op-ed for The Washington Post, Romney took a shot at Trump before the Utah Republican was even sworn in to office.
"[O]n balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the President has not risen to the mantle of the office," Romney wrote. "A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. ... And it is in this province where the incumbent's shortfall has been most glaring."
During a Wednesday appearance on Fox & Friends, Bongino slammed both Romney and Democrats.
"He's taking direct shots at the president!" Fox News host Brian Kilmeade exclaimed about Romney. "Why?"
"Because he's a sell-out," Bongino explained. "He's a fraud. He's a phony. He's a fake. This is the kind of guy who has absolutely decimated the Republican Party."
"You want to talk about character, you big phony, fraud, fake," he continued. "You know what? You should not have taken that endorsement [from Trump] if this is how you felt. This guy is a disgrace. He's an embarrassment. I'm embarrassed for him, the people of Utah and anyone who supported this fraud. What a fake!"
According to the Fox News contributor, Trump does not have a "character problem," but Romney does.
"The character problem here is this phony, fraud, hoaxer!" Bongino shouted.
"You know what?" co-host Ainsley Earhardt chimed in. "Democrats are so good at being loyal to one another, Republicans, the party, it's so interesting, the party doesn't -- the party, shouldn't that, if you're a Republican, shouldn't you support the party no matter who is in office?"
"Here's the problem we have, Ainsley," Bongino replied. "What are our other options? The Democrats want to destroy the country immediately. The swamp rat Republicans are the managed decliners. 'Don't worry, we'll just manage the decline of the country.'"
"The real fight is in the primaries where we've got to get rid of guys like this!" he added. "Donald Trump is not interested in the old ways of doing business... what else do you need to hear?"
"He's a sell-out, he sold us out," Bongino shrugged.
