The truckers convoy camped outside of DC is running on fumes

With the far-right truckers convoy stuck in a perpetual loop around Washington, DC, the leadership has found it necessary to scale back its ambitious demands to rescind emergency COVID orders and hold hearings on government’s handling of the pandemic.

Before the convoy made its initial foray around the Capitol Beltway, organizer Brian Brase told an angry crowd gathered at Hagerstown, Md. on March 5 that the convoy would “sit there in their backyard” and “wait until they legitimately drop the state of emergency, they drop the vaccine mandates, and they begin the process of bipartisan investigation… to find out the transparent version of the pandemic’s origins, and ask who is responsible for screwing this up so badly.”

Indictment of Proud Boys leader hints at coordination with other insurrection actors

With the indictment of Enrique Tarrio, the government has laid out the case that the Proud Boys utilized a command structure to mobilize members to take part in the Jan. 6 assault on the US Capitol, while dropping tantalizing hints about connections between the nationalist street brawling group and other potential actors in the conspiracy to prevent Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s election as president of the United States.

The new superseding indictment -- which also includes defendants Joe Biggs, Ethan Nordean, Charles Donohoe, Zach Rehl and Dominic Pezzola — already charged in two previous indictments — notes that on Dec. 19, 2020, President Trump announced a protest to coincide with Congress’ certification of the electoral college vote via tweet: “Big protest in DC on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”

REVEALED: Bill Barr can't stand Rudy Giuliani -- and blames him for Trump's impeachment

Bill Barr's new book, One Damn Thing After Another, was released Tuesday and if there's one consistency, it's that he doesn't have many nice things to say about Rudy Giuliani.

Barr recalls the Ukraine scandal and how annoyed he was that former President Donald Trump had made it sound like Barr was lumped in along with his attorneys, like Giuliani. That disgust continues during the arrival ceremony for the Australian delegation.

Manchin worries free education will turn Americans into moochers. Students are left in the dust

With barely a whimper, free community college for all Americans bit the dust, at least for now.

Already stripped from the pared-down Build Back Better bill proposed by the Biden administration in October, free community college will not re-emerge as a free-standing bill in 2022.

Camped outside DC, uneasy truckers paralyzed by paranoia vow to stay until demands met

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Thousands of angry conservative supporters of the truckers convoy rallied at a speedway in rural Maryland 60 miles outside of the Capital Beltway on Saturday evening, torn between the imperative for militant action to reject COVID measures and the recognition that disruption will likely result in legal repercussions.

Addressing supporters filling the stands at Hagerstown Speedway, organizer Brian Brase said leaders “are currently right now working on another location that when we move to puts us within just a few miles of the Beltway,” while imploring them not to go into the District of Columbia.

MAGA rioter clad in 'CNN: FAKE NEWS' hat gets 51 months in jail for attacking cops with a pipe on Jan. 6

A 68-year-old man sporting a hat that read “CNN: FAKE NEWS” -- and who attacked multiple officers at the U.S. Capitol with a pipe -- received one of the longest sentences handed down to date in connection with the January 6 riot.

Duke Edward Wilson, of Nampa, Idaho, was sentenced Friday to 51 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised probation and a fine of $2,000 by Judge Royce C. Lamberth. Wilson had pleaded guilty last September to assaulting, resisting or impeding officers and obstructing an official proceeding, both felonies.

The GOP is Russia's stooge – and what Democrats can do about it

Jim Clyburn, the South Carolina Congressman, isn’t a good public speaker. Even so, he speaks for me. He should speak for you, too.

Last week, during an interview with The Hill, the House majority whip put Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s fascist turn in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Europe’s infant republic:

Religious studies professor spells out the dangers of Christian nationalism's 'unholy trinity'

The relationship between Christian nationalism and class in the US is less obvious than the racist dimensions of that extremist ideology.

Christian nationalism upholds the “natural” order, including white supremacy and the “traditional” family with age-old gender roles.

‘Rife with the potential for violence’: Despite obstacles, truckers convoy headed to DC this weekend

As the anti-COVID restriction trucker convoy lumbers across the country towards Washington, DC, it remains to be seen whether the national far-right mobilization will create significant disruption.

Inspired by the occupation of Ottawa and blockade of the Ambassador Bridge linking Canada to the United States last month, the convoy, which is scheduled to arrive in the DC area on Saturday, has become the primary vessel for far-right discontent. The organizers of the People’s Convoy, which departed from southern California last week, have said the vehicles will go no further than the Beltway, and many participants are reluctant to go into the city for fear of a law enforcement crackdown.

Trucker convoy in disarray: Ousting of 'Nazi' leads to mutual accusations of snitching to the Feds

Ryan Sanchez, a Groyper-aligned white supremacist, has pulled out of the People’s Convoy on the second day of the group’s trek from southern California to Washington, DC after getting called out by Three Percenter leader Erik Rohde.

Sanchez has made no secret of his desire to infiltrate the anti-COVID restriction convoy effort for the purpose of mainstreaming white nationalism into the broader conservative movement. In a post on Telegram earlier this month, Sanchez cited his involvement in the Stop the Steal rallies at Huntington Beach Pier in late 2020 as an example of white nationalists joining forces with MAGA activists to push the movement to take more radical positions. One of the participants in those rallies was America First Bruins founder Christian Secor, who goes on trial in June for assaulting law enforcement, obstruction of an official proceeding and breaching the Capitol in connection with his role in the attempted insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.
