DeSantis keeps waging culture wars as more GOP critics emerge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Instead of easing up on a two-year culture war in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis is doubling down on his anti-"woke" agenda as potential rivals for the GOP presidential nomination target him. He’s surveying state universities and colleges for diversity, equity and inclusion and critical race theory programs, apparently to target them for budget cuts, as well as asking how much the schools are spending on gender-affirming care for transgender students. He’s attacking COVID-19 vaccines and drug stores, lambasting President Biden’s immigration and economic policies, ridiculing Cal...

Tensions flare in Ohio town after local man deliberately throws trash on Trump-loving neighbors' lawns

The saying "all politics are local" has received an entirely new meaning in Ohio where a staunch environmentalist is sick of the garbage coming from his Trump-supporting neighbors -- so he took matters into his own hands and repeatedly littered on their front lawns with literature about the environment, Democratic candidate marketing material, and even hand-written notes bashing his neighbors for their conservative Republican stances.

Local news station WKYC reports that retired teacher Gerald Dolcini already had two previous littering convictions against the same three neighbors on the same rural street when he allegedly committed a third act of littering while appealing his first two convictions.

Rick Scott plotting how to wreck Ron DeSantis — so he can run for president himself: report

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee for the 2022 midterm cycle, has ambitions of running for president — and according to Tara Palmieri for Puck, he is considering a plan to tear down one of his most bitter rivals: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis, who holds the office Scott himself once occupied in Florida, has become a favorite of the D.C. Republican donor class, who view him as a potential alternative to another run by former President Donald Trump — and at least some polls have suggested he led Trump with Republican primary voters, although other more recent polling suggests Trump may have regained his lead.

Kamala Harris bringing politically charged abortion issue to DeSantis’ front door

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Of all the places to go to rally advocates for reproductive rights on the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday will travel to Florida’s capital – and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ home turf – to exploit an issue that even supporters of the conservative culture warrior say may be a vulnerability. Harris will “deliver a major address” and speak about “what’s at stake for millions of women across the country and, most importantly, the need for Congress to codify the protections of Roe into law,” White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday...

CPAC leaves Orlando, keeps Trump as headliner. What about DeSantis?

ORLANDO, Fla. — The biggest conservative political gathering of the year will not return to Orlando after two years, but former President Donald Trump is again set to be the headliner, with no mention so far of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference set for March 1-4, is going back to the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center just south of Washington, D.C., where it had been held prior to the pandemic. The move raises speculation about whether the powerful American Conservative Union, which runs CPAC, is taking sides between Trump and DeSantis in apot...

Trump's 'dark money machine' purposely designed to be 'confusing' to make it harder to track: report

Thanks in part to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the phrase “dark money” is heard a great deal these days in connection with U.S. politics. Citizens United, with its majority opinion by libertarian then-Justice Anthony Kennedy, defined campaign and election spending as a form of constitutionally protected “speech.” And it opened the “dark money” floodgates in a major way.

The Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger, in an article published by the Daily Beast on January 19, examines the “dark money machine” of former President Donald Trump. According to Sollenberger, that operation is only getting worse — and is purposely designed to be “confusing.”

Scholars, lawmakers outraged over DeSantis' rejection of AP African-American curriculum

Academics and Democratic lawmakers reacted angrily Thursday after the administration of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis rejected a new high school Advanced Placement African-American studies course—without even seeing its syllabus—claiming it violates the state's ban on "woke" education and "lacks educational value."

Some Republican Florida officials said they believe the African-American studies course offered by the College Board—which approves AP courses and runs SAT testing—violates the state's Stop WOKE Act by promoting critical race theory (CRT), a graduate-level academic framework positing that systemic racism is inherent in U.S. society.

Florida refuses to offer new AP African American studies course to students

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida will not allow its public high school students to enroll in a new Advanced Placement African American studies course because the state claims its content is “contrary to Florida law and significantly lacks educational value.” The Florida Department of Education informed the College Board, which runs the AP program, of its decision in a Jan. 12 letter. The letter did not detail how the course material violated state law. But in April Gov. Ron DeSantis signed what he dubbed his “stop woke” act, which banned “critical race theory” in public schools and what he called the t...

Trump planning to unleash a scorched-earth campaign against DeSantis: report

Once close political allies, former President Donald Trump is already sizing up Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as his closest competition to stop him from his desired return to the White House.

Trump teases 'big political speech' today

Former President Donald Trump raged against the media on his Truth Social platform on Thursday — and promised he would be giving a "big political speech" later that day at his Trump Doral property in Miami to kick things into high gear.

"The Fake News says I am not campaigning very hard. I say they are stupid and corrupt, with the Election still a long time away," wrote Trump. "But do not fear, MANY GIANT RALLIES and other events coming up soon. It will all be wild and exciting. We will save our Country from DOOM and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

DeSantis rakes in inauguration cash from companies he blasted for being 'woke': report

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) accepted large, albeit as-of-now unspecified, sums of money into his gubernatorial inauguration fund from several corporations that he has publicly trashed for being "woke," and, in some cases, even used state policy to punish, according to The Washington Post.

"Two major fundraisers are lobbyists for Disney, the entertainment giant that DeSantis moved to punish for speaking out against his bill restricting classroom discussions of sexuality," said the report. "Another inauguration co-chair lobbies for BlackRock, the investment powerhouse that DeSantis’s administration divested of state funds in retaliation for the firm’s social impact standards. Additional listed sponsors included CVS Health and Walgreens, chain pharmacies that DeSantis criticized at a recent news conference on drug prices."
