Ron DeSantis suggests he might divert vaccines to parts of Florida that aren't criticizing him

On Wednesday, at a press conference in Lakewood Ranch, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) appeared to suggest that if county officials want to criticize how he's distributing vaccines, he's happy to divert vaccines from counties critical of him to counties that aren't.

"If Manatee County doesn't like us doing this, then we are totally fine with putting this in counties that want it," said DeSantis. "We're totally happy to do that. So anyone that's saying that, let us know, if you want us to send to Sarasota next time, or Charlotte, or Pasco, wherever, we're happy to do it. But I think most people, if we have an opportunity to bring vaccines and do it efficiently, I think they're going to want it."

Florida grocery chain faces growing backlash over ties to the pro-Trump Capitol attack

After news broke that a founding family member of the Publix supermarket chain donated $300,000 to the Trump rally that preceded the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, people who frequented the stores are parting ways, according to a report from The Guardian.

"It was the last straw," Wendy Mize, 57, told The Guardian. "Insurrection at the Capitol, images of the police officer with his head being crushed, individuals dressed as Vikings on the floor of the Senate… we're not going to call this normal. [Publix] are a private company and it is their business how they want to contribute their money, but it's also my right to decide where I want to spend my dollars."

Florida sued for violating the 19th Amendment with voter suppression law

Rosemary McCoy didn't vote in the 2020 election — she couldn't. Instead she put boots to the ground in Duval County, Florida, asking people if they would exercise their right to vote because she had been disenfranchised. “Is it possible for you to go out and vote to support me?" McCoy asked.

After nearly two-thirds of the state voted to restore the right to vote to those convicted of felony offenses, McCoy and more than 700,000 Floridians lost access to the voting box in 2019, when Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 7066 into law. The legislation requires formerly incarcerated people to pay any restitution, fines, fees or court costs — also known as legal financial obligations — before regaining the right to vote. McCoy learned that she owed about $7,500 in victim restitution, including interest, and her county expected her to pay it all at once. Advocates call the law a modern-day poll tax.

Florida is failing on COVID-19 -- Marco Rubio says they should get to steal vaccines from other states

Florida's senior Senator believes the Sunshine State should skip to the front of the line for coronavirus vaccines as a result of the failure of Gov. Ron DeSantis to contain the virus in the state.

"The Biden administration is considering whether to impose domestic travel restrictions, including on Florida, fearful that coronavirus mutations are threatening to reverse hard-fought progress on the pandemic," the Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday. "Outbreaks of the new variants — including a highly contagious one first identified in the United Kingdom, as well as others from South Africa and Brazil that scientists worry can evade existing vaccines — have lent urgency to a review of potential travel restrictions within the United States, one federal official said."

‘Garbage’: White House reporters slammed for asking ‘ridiculous’ questions, from Tokyo Olympics to Sarah Sanders

Now that regular, daily White House press briefings are being held again, many Americans are praising the tenor of press secretary Jen Psaki, who some say is eager to impart actual information. After four years of press secretaries attacking both the press corps and Democrats, the new tone in the briefing room is a welcome change for many.

But on social media some blasted several White House reporters for asking "ridiculous" questions, like this unidentified reporter who wanted to know how high up on President Joe Biden's list of priorities is the Arkansas gubernatorial race, now that former Trump White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has thrown her hat in the ring.

White House says Florida used just half of COVID-19 vaccines sent by federal government

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s press secretary said Monday that Florida has used only half of its COVID-19 vaccines from the federal government, noting that the state — where over-65 residents have been struggling to get appointments for the shots — has “a good deal of the vaccine.” The comments from press secretary Jen Psaki came after she was asked during a White House briefing about criticism last week from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Biden’s vaccine distribution plan. Biden plans to use the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Guard to help with distributing COVID-19 v...
