'It's horrible': RNC official furious over being stuck with Trump as the 2024 nominee

With Donald Trump pulling away in the polls and the first primaries on the horizon, some Republican National Committee members and GOP operatives are expressing dismay that he will be their 2024 nominee and will doom their chances of retaking the White House.

With no challenger appearing to be a serious threat to Trump's third consecutive run for the presidency, there are now worries the former president will wrap up the delegates needed for the nomination quickly only to have their nominee end up a convicted felon before the general election in November.

That has some GOP operatives worried the election will be a wipe-out.

In an interview with the Daily Beast's K Jake Lahut, an RNC operative admitted they were dreading being saddled with the embattled former president.

"People need to wake up before we end up with [Trump] as our candidate, because we’ll end up with Biden as our president," the RNC member and former presidential campaign adviser lamented.

They then added, "It’s horrible. Somehow he has us in in this hole, and for no good reason, either.”

Adding to that, there are concerns that any efforts by GOP insiders to deny Trump the nomination because of his legal problems could lead to violence from his supporters when the Republican Party convenes in Milwaukee for the nominating convention.

"It’s clearly gonna be more dangerous than the others," explained one source. "And I like Milwaukee, but it’s a more compact city, it’s not like being spread out in New York or some place.”

The report adds that Florida pollster Brad Coker is also raising alarms at the prospect of a convicted Trump killing any chance of him roping in independent voters.

Explaining that Trump would see a drop-off of between 10-15 percent of independents who might have voted for him, Coker stated, "I think it would be decisive."
