GOP senator on health bill: Obamacare is 'car with Thelma & Louise... and then maybe there's another car'
Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) on Thursday defended the health care bill written in secret by Senate Republicans that will reportedly leave millions without insurance.
MSNBC's Kasie Hunt caught up with Roberts as he was leaving a closed-door meeting with Republican colleagues.
"It's a lot like being in the backseat of a convertible with Thelma and Louise," he explained, referencing the car that drove over a cliff at the conclusion of Thelma & Louise. "You've got to get out of the car. Maybe the first car we get into is not exactly a car you want. But you've got to do that. And then maybe there's another car. It's going to take some time."
"We just have to do the best we can, get something done," he added. "And then, you know, continue to work on it."
Roberts went on to compare the repeal of Obamacare to another movie: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
"This isn't the end-all time here, it's going to take some time to fix," he insisted. "It's taken eight years for this not so slowly to crash. And it's like, here we go again, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. You've got to get off the cliff. The bad guys are coming."
