Republicans and conservative media figures are calling for open revolt against President Joe Biden's vaccine mandates.

The president said his patience was wearing thin with vaccine-hesitant Americans, as the coronavirus spreads throughout much of the country and overwhelms hospitals, and Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will require millions of federal and private-sector workers to be inoculated or face weekly testing -- which many conservatives seized on as a political issue, reported Axios.

In an interview with Business Insider, an expert in vaccine law suggested there are multiple avenues that Republicans can take if they want to make good on their threat to sue President Joe Biden over his mandate that would make companies get their employees vaccinated or take weekly COVID-19 tests -- but they are all likely to fail.

As the report notes, within minutes after Biden announced a sweeping new vaccine mandate, Republican lawmakers flooded social media with threats to sue and called on their followers to not "comply."

In a video reviewed by Salon and apparently recorded on July 25, the 8-year-old son of Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., can be seen singing, dancing and playing with cigarette lighters — while left alone in a room a few feet away from a high-capacity rifle. This would appear to violate a new Colorado state law, under which gun owners are required to store their deadly weapons in a gun safe, with a trigger or cable lock, whenever the owner is aware, or should reasonably be aware, that a "juvenile or a resident who is ineligible to possess a firearm can gain access to the firearm."

As a newly-elected member of Congress in February, Boebert was widely criticized after appearing at a House Natural Resources Committee meeting via Zoom before a backdrop of a bookshelf bearing several high-capacity weapons.

During the 2020 election, many Democrats hammered Republicans relentlessly over their failure to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously — and according to a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee memo that CNN has obtained a copy of, Democrats also plan to make COVID-19 a major issue in the 2022 midterms.

Some non-Trumpian GOP governors have been quite proactive in their response to the pandemic, including Maryland's Larry Hogan, Massachusetts' Charlie Baker and Vermont's Phil Scott. Yet countless other Republicans have downplayed the pandemic's severity, opposed social distancing measures and discouraged the use of protective mask mandates.

Republican governors across the country attacked Biden for efforts to slow the spread of the pandemic.

On Thursday, CNN's Chris Cuomo tore into Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) for protesting President Joe Biden's new federal vaccine mandate, as he continues to defend an extreme law that bans virtually all abortions in his state and empowers civil bounties on anyone who helps facilitate them.

"So let me get this right from the right," said Cuomo. "Insisting that doing what science overwhelmingly shows protects a person and those around them from a deadly virus is wrong, though it defies no existing law that deals with the subject. Basically why? Because a person has a right to choose what to put in their body. That's their personal freedom. But you only believe that with the vaccine. Because you are all fine ignoring existing constitutional law to prohibit a woman from having the right to control her own body. You practically ban access to reproductive rights in Texas in defiance of the standard set out by science and law."

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey was among the Republican governors who lashed out at President Joe Biden for announcing new coronavirus measures.

On Twitter, Ducey described Biden's approach as "dictatorial" and "un-American."

Former Fox News employee Todd Starnes, who was fired from his job after agreeing with a guest that Democrats were worshippers of Moloch, expressed horror on Thursday when he learned that the conservative cable news network had a vaccine mandate.

After President Joe Biden pointed out that even Fox News required its employees to show proof of vaccination, Starnes said he couldn't believe his former employer would do such a thing.

On Thursday, as part of his new announcement of federal vaccine mandates, President Joe Biden took particular aim at COVID deniers attacking flight attendants for enforcing mask mandates, ordering the Federal Aviation Administration to double fines for unruly passengers — and demanding people "show some respect" for flight crews.

This remark provoked an angry reaction from Fox News' Jeanine Pirro, a former judge in New York and firebrand right-wing commentator.

Multiple Republican governors came to the defense of those who have refused to get vaccinated following President Joe Biden's address to the country announcing new federal steps to control the pandemic.

Biden announced that all employers with over 100 employees must require vaccination or require weekly COVID-19 testing of employees. Biden also announced all federal workers and contractors would need to be vaccinated. And Biden required all 17 million health care workers at facilities receiving federal funding would need to get vaccinated.

On Thursday, in a speech to the nation, President Joe Biden laid out his plan to mandate vaccinations for COVID-19 in thousands of American workplaces — and blasted the politicians, mostly Republicans, who have stood in the way of vaccination efforts.

"Despite the fact that for almost five months, free vaccines have been able in 80,000 different locations, we still have nearly 80 million Americans who have failed to get the shot, and to make matters worse, there are elected officials actively working to undermine the fight against COVID-19," said Biden. "Instead of encouraging people to get vaccinated and mask up, they are ordering mobile morgues for the unvaccinated for those dying in our communities. This is totally unacceptable."
