Republican leader nailed after freakout over a fake IRS poster actually made by an activist

On Wednesday, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) took to Facebook to rage against a poster from the Internal Revenue Service advertising the expansion of the Child Tax Credit to millions of new families, one of the many new programs created under President Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan.

"Infuriating," wrote McCarthy of the poster, which was headlined "A monthly check to you." "The IRS is literally spending taxpayer money to advertise a government handout. This is welfare without work requirements."

Biden destroys right-wing militia talk that guns are necessary to take on the government: 'You'll need F15s'

Speaking about the dramatic increase in mass shootings (as many as ten in a weekend), President Joe Biden questioned pro-gun groups who claim that the Second Amendment is necessary "to take on the government."

According to many pro-gun groups, the Second Amendment protects the right to have weapons of war in order to "form a well-regulated militia." The only reason to form a militia would be to take on the government, as a well-regulated militia exists as the U.S. Military.

Will the US Catholic Church really deny Joe Biden Communion?

When Catholic bishops in the US voted last week to go forward with a measure that could limit the right of some politicians to receive the Eucharist, or Communion, the move highlighted both the continuing politicisation of religion in America and a widening divide within the Catholic Church at large.

Defying the Vatican, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) voted overwhelmingly last Friday to draft a formal statement on "the meaning of the Eucharist in the life of the Church", a measure widely seen as aimed at denying Communion to President Joe Biden because of his support of abortion rights.

Editorial in major paper declares 'the filibuster must go' after GOP senators’ shameful reaction to Manchin’s voting rights bill

Centrist Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, a frequent target of progressives in his party, recently offered Republicans in the U.S. Senate a compromise when he proposed a less comprehensive —some Democrats would say watered down — version of the For the People Act. But on June 22, House Republicans, using the filibuster, wouldn't even debate Manchin's proposal. In light of this development, the Los Angeles Times' editorial board argues in a June 22 editorial, the only way to protect voting rights in the United States is to abolish the filibuster.

"As expected, debate on a bill to protect voting rights was blocked in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday when the Democratic sponsors failed to garner 60 votes," the Times' editorial board notes. "But in reaching out to centrist Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), Senate Democrats indicated that they were open to compromise. The shameful reaction of Senate Republicans, on the other hand, demonstrated that they are willing to ignore laws approved by GOP-controlled legislatures that make voting harder."

He also believed conspiracy theories about the "great reset" that was supposed to take place on Joe Biden's day of inauguration. But two days before Biden's inauguration, Beckett took a hammer and hit his partner in the head four times before strangling her while repeating, "I need to do this, I need to do this."

Army Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is one of a handful of senior officials to transition from Donald Trump's presidency to Joe Biden's.

"He is one of the people who bear the scars of the Trump years," John Gans, a former Obama administration official told The Washington Post. "That may not be his fault, but that is the fate of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, which was being chairman under Donald Trump."

The Jim Crow Republicans aren't just attacking voting — they want to rewrite history

Words have actual meanings. Why do I consistently describe today's version of the Republican Party as the "Jim Crow Republican Party"? Because that political party is now engaged in a coordinated nationwide effort to keep Black and brown people from voting.

Today's Republican Party is attempting to end America's multiracial democracy and replace it with a new form of American apartheid in which Black and brown people are treated as second-class citizens in their own country. These efforts to create a whites-only fake democracy involves many of the same tactics and strategies as the original Jim Crow regime. These include onerous ID requirements, voter intimidation and harassment, limiting access to polling places, claims that some votes (by white people) are more "valuable" and of "higher quality" than others, outright vote theft and vote fraud, an attempt to create one-party monopoly rule and claims that voting is something "sacred," to be "protected" by limiting access to those deemed unworthy.
