Trump brands Biden 'enemy of the state' at Pennsylvania rally

Former US President Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally in support of Doug Mastriano for Governor and Mehmet Oz for US Senate at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on September 3, 2022

Wilkes-Barre (United States) (AFP) - Donald Trump branded Joe Biden an "enemy of the state" Saturday, as he hit back at the US president's assertion that the Republican and his supporters are undermining American democracy and slammed last month's FBI raid of his Florida home.

Making his first public appearance since the August 8 raid, Trump said the search was a "travesty of justice" and warned it would produce "a backlash the likes of which nobody has ever seen."

Unable to use Twitter after his account was permanently suspended to prevent further incitement of violence, Trump took to Truth Social to hype his rally for Mastriano and GOP Senate nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz.

The 79-year-old Democrat -- still unpopular though his poll numbers have been creeping back up -- has a catchphrase that says it all: "Don't compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative."

The U.S. Treasury on Friday issued a formal response to a Republican lawmaker who has been requesting financial "suspicious activity reports" on President Joe Biden's son Hunter, saying that it would consider only official requests from relevant congressional committees.

Democrats control Congress and its committees, making such a request from Republicans virtually impossible, though mid-term congressional elections could shift control. The request to Treasury was made under the Bank Secrecy Act which is intended to help prevent money laundering.
