Texas Republican Sen. Cruz launched his own version of Sesame Street on the "Newsmax Kids" network, in SNL's Cold Open on Saturday.

"I'm Texas Senator — and the last one invited to Thanksgiving — Ted Cruz," Cruz, played by cast member Aidy Bryant, says at the start of the skit. "For 50 years, I stood by as Sesame Street taught our children dangerous ideas like numbers and kindness, but when Big Bird told children to get vaccinated against a deadly disease, I said enough and I created my own Sesame Street called Cruz Street. It's a gated community where kids are safe from the woke government."

A remarkable precedent: FL Republicans want to pay workers who refuse to submit to vaccine mandates

The state of Florida would pay workers to quit their jobs by giving them unemployment benefits rather than submit to vaccine mandates under legislation filed for Gov. Ron DeSantis' special session of the Legislature, due to convene next week.

That's a provision of SB 2, one of four bills introduced as part of the governor's campaign against vaccine and mask mandates in workplaces and public schools. The state also has filed lawsuits seeking to overturn President Joe Biden's plan to require vaccinations for businesses, health care providers, and federal contractors.

Trump's defense of 'hang Mike Pence' may not even be the right's worst rationalization of violence this week: op-ed

Donald Trump's apparent defense of his supporters call to "hang Mike Pence" is just the latest rationalization for political violence by right-wing Republicans.

The twice-impeached one-term president justified the threats in a recorded interview with ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl, saying "people were very angry" that he had lost the election and that Pence refused to go along with his scheme to remain in office, and Washington Post columnist Philip Bump said it may not even be the worst offense by a GOP politician this week.
