Fox guest mocks liberals on Keystone pipeline: Cars don't run on 'unicorn tears'
A Fox News guest on Monday encouraged President Barack Obama to approve the Keystone XL pipeline because cars do not run on "unicorn tears."
After Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), chair of the Democratic National Committee, said that she didn't believe that politics would be a factor in whether or not the president approved the pipeline, Fox News host Elizabeth Prann asked conservative Townhall.com columnist Derek Hunter about the delays.
Hunter argued that the White House was caught between labor union "friends who want the jobs" and "the environmentalists who don't care about the jobs."
Simon Rosenberg, president of the centrist New Democrat Network (NDN), pointed out that the United States was on track to be nearly energy independent by 2020 -- even without the Keystone pipeline.
Although Rosenberg encouraged the president to approve the pipeline, he encouraged conservatives not to be hyperbolic in their support of the project.
But Hunter asserted that Obama was willing to risk losing votes in red states to "appease the environmentalists."
"I mean, I'm all for alternative energy, but until we come up with something that actually works and is efficient, we have to live in the real world," Hunter said. "We're not to the point where we can have car that runs on unicorn tears, and hopes and dreams."
"I think it's important for the advocates of Keystone not to overstate the benefits that it's going to bring," Rosenberg reminded Hunter. "It's one piece of a much larger puzzle."
