DeSantis vows to spend $12 million on moving migrants, wherever they are

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis vowed Friday to spend all $12 million he has been given by state lawmakers on flights and buses sending migrants to sanctuary cities and states in protest of what he calls President Biden’s “reckless” border policies. “We’re going to spend every penny of that making sure we get them out of this state,” DeSantis said during a news conference in Daytona Beach. At the same time, he conceded that the four dozen refugees flown from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday were not from Florida but were among those identified as “wanting to come to Florida.” DeSa...

Migrants flown to Martha's Vineyard moved to US military base

Fifty or so migrants sent to the wealthy island of Martha's Vineyard in the northeastern United States as part of a political battle over immigration will be temporarily housed at a military base not far from there, the governor of Massachusetts said Friday.

The migrants, mostly Venezuelans and including children, arrived Wednesday at Martha's Vineyard, a Democratic stronghold and popular vacation spot for the country's political elite.

This is how much Florida has paid an aviation company to relocate ‘unauthorized aliens’

MIAMI — Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration last week paid an aviation company $615,000 as part of a new Florida program to relocate undocumented immigrants out of the state, according to state records. Records show the company, Vertol Systems Company Inc., was paid on Sept. 8. A week later, DeSantis took credit for sending a group of 48 migrants — most, if not all, from Venezuela — to Martha’s Vineyard, a summer island destination for the rich and powerful in Massachusetts. Vertol Systems’ website shows it is based in Hillsboro, Oregon, but has operations in Destin in Florida’s Panhandle. The p...

'A form of terrorism': MSNBC's Heilemann slams Trump's 'hostage-taking' over potential indictment

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and John Heilemann sounded the alarm on Donald Trump's "fascist" predictions of street violence if he's indicted in one of the many criminal cases against him.

The twice-impeached former president appeared Thursday on conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt's talk radio program, where he warned there would be "problems in this country the likes of which perhaps we’ve never seen" if he faced prosecution, and the "Morning Joe" host said that was clearly a violent threat.

Senator calls Ron DeSantis a 'power-mad tyrant' after Martha's Vineyard stunt

WASHINGTON, DC — After he cast a late morning vote on the Senate floor Thursday, Tim Kaine was in his signature satisfied smile – the one he regularly seems incapable of controlling on his noticeably unhurried strolls through the hurried-to-hectic United States Capitol – as he descended into the dregs of the Capitol. Before reaching the trams at the bottom of the landing, where a rotating cast of reporters all but reside, he stopped to field our questions. After answering an election question, the former governor of a formerly purple Virginia went out of his way to defend many members of the GOP from charges they’re all lawless disciples of Trump (“Not everybody who is a Republican is in that camp, but, sadly, an awful lot are”).

In the next question, “DeSantis'' came up as an easy, almost piñata-like example of a broader trend. One mention of the Florida governor’s name was too much, even for the perpetually nice – “Virginia is…” annoyingly, at least half the time… “for Lovers” – and decent former Democratic vice-presidential nominee.

Gov. Ron DeSantis took his bows Thursday for airlifting some 50 asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts the day before.

Gavin Newsom 'strongly' urges Justice Department to investigate the 'kidnapping' of relocated migrants

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is urging Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate “possible criminal or civil violations of federal law,” including possible “kidnapping” or “RICO” charges after Florida and Texas shipped thousands of undocumented immigrants across state lines to states including Massachusetts, New York, and to Washington, D.C.

“Like millions of Americans, I have been horrified at the images of migrants being shipped on buses and planes across the country to be used as political props,” Newsom’s letter begins. “Clearly, transporting families, including children, across state lines under false pretenses is morally reprehensible, but it may also be illegal.”

Martha's Vineyard responds with compassion after DeSantis dumps migrants in 'cruel stunt'

Residents of the Massachusetts resort community of Martha's Vineyard on Wednesday immediately rallied to ensure dozens of South American migrants had clothing, shelter, and food after they arrived on the island without warning—and without any idea where they had been taken—as part of Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis's program for the "transportation" of refugees and undocumented immigrants.

About 50 migrants, reportedly from Venezuela and Colombia, boarded a plane in San Antonio Wednesday and were told they would "receive housing and jobs immediately upon arrival" at their destination, Massachusetts state Rep. Dylan Fernandes told The Vineyard Gazette, but the community was not informed of the plan.

Florida newspaper disgusted by Republicans refusing to disavow Nazi and white supremacist supporters

It's only been a few weeks since President Joe Biden made a speech calling out violent domestic terrorism from white supremacists, militia groups, neo-Nazis and others that have been embraced under the MAGA banner. Now the Miami Herald is concerned that too many of these groups are within Florida's borders and they're part of Gov. Ron DeSantis' (R-FL) supporters.

In an Editorial Board piece on Thursday, the Herald explained that these "extremists don’t always wear white robes and burn crosses." But they were certainly breaking through the windows of the Capitol on Jan. 6. they were flying swastika flags over interstate overpasses, they harassed those they believed were Jewish and people of color, they staged an event outside of a right-wing conference and held a rally outside of Disney World.
