DeSantis signs anti-mandate bills into law but they conflict with federal COVID rules

TAMPA, Fla. — Wasting little time, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday signed into law four bills that offset federal mask and vaccine mandates less than 12 hours after state lawmakers passed the legislation along mostly party lines. Claiming he was upholding the rights of Floridians to choose whether or not to be vaccinated, DeSantis said he was signing the strongest legislation yet that blunts a federal mandate on employer vaccine requirements. “We’re proud of leading. We’re proud of standing up for people’s rights,” DeSantis said before a raucous crowd at Brandon Honda. “I think Brandon’s a great...

Victim slams Florida Republicans for refusing to expel Matt Gaetz's wingman Joel Greenberg

The teacher stalked and attacked by former Florida tax collector Joel Greenberg is speaking out with a column in the Orlando Sentinel. Greenberg is the former wingman of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) who has pleaded guilty and continues to work with prosecutors.

Between 2017 and 2020, Greenberg was relentless in his attacks against teacher Brian Beute, a Republican who tried running against him. The school got an anonymous letter falsely saying that he had an improper relationship with a student, which led to Beute being put on leave pending an investigation by the sheriff. Beute was ultimately cleared of all charges, but in the meantime, a group of sock-puppet accounts appeared online making the same claim against Beute.

Ron DeSantis in hot seat after top aide pushes anti-Semitic conspiracy theory

Long before anti-Semitic conspiracy theorists became obsessed with billionaire Democrat George Soros, they were obsessing over the Rothschild family and their firm Rothschild & Co. — which has been around since 1810. Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, recently claimed that the Rothschilds played a role in the launch of a new COVID-19 vaccine passport system in the country Georgia. Pushaw had a playful, quirky tone, but journalist Jonathan Chait, in an article published by New York Magazine this week, stresses that the comment was nonetheless offensive.

On Twitter, Pushaw posted, "Georgia decided to enact a 'Green Pass' system (biomedical security state). Immediately after that, the Rothschilds show up to address the attractive investment environment in Georgia (lol). No weird conspiracy stuff here!"

DeSantis wanted to get tough on employer vaccine mandates. Legislators reined him in

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — When Gov. Ron DeSantis announced last month that he wanted to call a special session to penalize companies that require employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19, state Sen. Aaron Bean, a veteran Republican lawmaker who has spent much of his 17-year legislative career working on health care issues, knew the idea was going to have problems. “I want to stand for freedom,’’ said Bean, of Jacksonville. “But there’s also the argument that if I own a small company, and I have underlying health conditions, and I want to make sure all those that interact with me are safe, are vaccina...

A remarkable precedent: FL Republicans want to pay workers who refuse to submit to vaccine mandates

The state of Florida would pay workers to quit their jobs by giving them unemployment benefits rather than submit to vaccine mandates under legislation filed for Gov. Ron DeSantis' special session of the Legislature, due to convene next week.

That's a provision of SB 2, one of four bills introduced as part of the governor's campaign against vaccine and mask mandates in workplaces and public schools. The state also has filed lawsuits seeking to overturn President Joe Biden's plan to require vaccinations for businesses, health care providers, and federal contractors.

Why Roger Stone and Ron DeSantis are engaged in a 'MAGA Civil War': report

In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis and veteran GOP operative Roger Stone are among former President Donald Trump's most strident allies, and neither is shy about downplaying the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, encouraging voter suppression or promoting the false claim that Trump was a victim of widespread voter fraud in 2020. But according to Politico's Gary Fineout, there is considerable tension between Stone and DeSantis these days — and he lays out some of the reasons for this "MAGA civil war."

Fineout explains, "This is the MAGA civil war liberals dream about: Roger Stone vs. Ron DeSantis…. Stone, the long-time ally of Donald Trump and political provocateur in this state, has been ratcheting up pressure against the governor. He's calling on him to audit the 2020 election — he hasn't — and then, this past weekend, saying DeSantis should promise now to not run for president if he wins reelection even if Trump doesn't seek another term. He hasn't."

Ron DeSantis’ surgeon general got his medical license approved in just two days

It's been just a few days since Florida Surgeon General was attacked by former colleagues at UCLA for inflating his resume and lying about his work during the COVID-19 crisis in Los Angeles hospitals.

The Florida Ledger reported Wednesday that Dr. Joseph Ladapo's medical license was approved in just two days, a process that normally takes 2-6 months, the board's website says. The fact was also confirmed by medical and legal professionals who know the process. The report also noted that all of the members of the 15 person Board of Medicine were approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). The governor has been criticized for more than a year for his handling of the pandemic, concealing data about how many people in the state got the virus or died from it and other concerns.
