Trump's contempt of court bill now up to $100,000 — and he's still refusing to pay: report

According to Newsweek, former President Donald Trump is now up to $100,000 in civil contempt of court fines for refusing to turn over records to New York Attorney General Letitia James — and there is no indication he plans to pay up anytime soon.

"On April 25, New York Judge Arthur Engoron held the former president in contempt of court refusing to fully cooperate with the civil investigation looking into allegations of tax fraud by The Trump Organization," reported Ewan Palmer. "Following the ruling, Trump was issued with a $10,000 daily fine for as long as he fails to comply with the subpoena or can convince the judge he does not possess the required documents. On Thursday, Trump will have entered the tenth day of paying the $10,000 fines, which are set to continue to further accumulate."

'Wholly inappropriate': Trump lawyers scrambled to remove some of his deposition answers from lawsuit

According to a report from the Daily Beast's Jose Pagliery, attorneys for former President Donald Trump frantically attempted to have some answers the former president made in a deposition removed from a court filing because they felt his own words would be "prejudicial" to his defense.

In the deposition linked to a lawsuit accusing the former president of ordering security officials to rough up protesters at Trump Tower in 2015, Trump expressed his fears that his foes could hurl fruit at him, and described the projectiles as "very dangerous stuff."

Trump fought a subpoena to hand over documents involving his business practices as part of the investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Ultimately, a judge decided that Trump must comply and that for each day he refused he would be issued a contempt fine of $10,000.

Trump's lawyer throws tantrum — accuses judge of engineering a 'public spectacle': report

On Friday, Adam Klasfeld of Law & Crime reported that Alina Habba, an attorney representing former President Donald Trump, released a furious rant attacking the Manhattan judge who earlier today refused to overturn the ruling holding the former president in civil contempt of court with fines of $10,000 per day.

"The tactics employed by this Court, including the dramatic pounding of the gavel, the statements directed to our client from the bench, and direct comments to the press have reduced this hearing to the likes of a public spectacle," she said. "We will zealously prosecute our appeal of the Court's improper application of both law and fact."

Trump urges judge to deny NY Attorney General Letitia James’ contempt request, says he’s turned over all evidence

NEW YORK — Former President Donald Trump says he’s now turned over to New York Attorney General Letitia James all the evidence he needs to — and shouldn’t be held in contempt of court. Trump is fighting James’ request he be found in contempt and slapped with $10,000 daily fines for blowing a March 31 deadline to respond to outstanding subpoenas tied to her civil probe into his business practices. In a new filing late Tuesday, Trump lawyer Alina Habba argued any remaining evidence is in the possession of the Trump Organization — not Trump himself — and slammed James’ contempt motion as attentio...

'This is nuts': Trump's new attorney accused of botching court filing

Donald Trump's legal adviser Alina Habba, who regularly appears on the right-wing One America News channel, recently filed documents with the New York court. But her critics claim she signed an area of the document that the judge is actually supposed to sign.

"You can’t make this stuff up! Trump’s superstar counsel @AlinaHabba served me with a defective subpoena and worse, files an Order To Show Cause that she signs as if she was the Judge authorized to decide the merits of the case," former Trump attorney Michael Cohen tweeted on Tuesday.

This 'attack dog Trump lawyer' is so extreme that even fellow Trumpists 'can’t stand her': report

New Jersey-based attorney Alina Habba, who joined Donald Trump’s legal team in 2021, has represented the former president on a variety of cases — including his lawsuits against his niece Mary Trump and journalist E. Jean Carroll. Habba has drawn a lot of attention in Trumpworld because of her in-your-face antics, which — according to Daily Beast reporters José Pagliery and Asawin Suebsaeng — are so over-the-top that she has even alienated other members of Trump’s legal team.

“Her name is Alina Habba, and — almost out of nowhere — the relatively unknown New Jersey lawyer went from representing a college student ticked off at COVID-19 virtual learning to being one of the top attorneys defending the twice-impeached former president in some of the country’s most high-profile cases,” Pagliery and Suebsaeng explain in an article published on March 21. “There’s just one problem for Habba: There’s hardly anyone in the Trump legal universe who can stand her.”

Trump attorney Alina Habba admitted on Tuesday that the ex-president and members of his family may be forced to use the Fifth Amendment to protect themselves from incrimination in New York after a judge ruled that they can be subpoenaed by Attorney General Letitia James.

During an interview on Newsmax, Habba claimed that it had been improper for state Supreme Court Judge Arthur F. Engoron to call Donald Trump a "bad guy" during a court hearing over the attorney general's right to subpoena. She also defended referring to Trump as a "protected class" in court.

Trump's attacks on NY AG Letitia James in court blew up in his face: former prosecutor

In a column for Politico, former prosecutor Renato Mariotti suggested that a decision by Donald Trump to have his attorney attempt to smear New York Attorney General Letitia James in a New York courtroom was a fatal mistake that likely placed him in even greater legal peril.

According to Mariotti, Trump tried to bring politics into the courtroom which, in turn, opened the door for the sitting judge to rule against the former president, as well as Ivanka Trump and Don Trump Jr., on the matter of being questioned that could lead to a devastating criminal indictment.
