Trump was 'startled' when he saw AG nominee talking about 'warm relationship' with Robert Mueller: CNN
President Donald Trump reportedly had an adverse reaction when he learned that William Barr, his nominee to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general, is friends with special counsel Robert Mueller.
"We are learning from sources that the president was startled as he watched bill Barr testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee and describing the warm relationship he has with the special counsel Robert Mueller," CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported on-air Thursday based on information from three sources with knowledge of the conversation.
Trump, Collins added, "did not like that."
"He was complaining to aides," the White House correspondent reported, "saying he didn't know how close they were and he didn't know how much their work had overlapped previously."
Nonetheless, Trump is not reported to be thinking about withdrawing Barr's nomination.
"The president calmed down from being so upset about the new details that emerged during that hearing," Collins said. "He said, 'Bill Barr and Robert Mueller are part of the Washington establishment. That's why they have this relation going on.'"
