President Donald Trump is set to address the national Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Kansas City on Tuesday.
The embattled president, who has been saber-rattling at Iran, will be speaking to an estimated 4,000 war veterans at Memorial Auditorium, with the speech expected to begin at 12:30 PM ET.

"The View" co-host Meghan McCain exploded in fury as the studio audience cheered a list of Democratic-Socialist campaign promises, and vowed to keep those political ideas from becoming "normalized."
The show's panelists discussed sexist attacks against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the conversation continued past a commercial break into a debate over her differences with the Democratic Party and the policies she had proposed.
"We had her on this show, and I asked her this question, what do you mean by Democratic-Socialist?" said co-host Sunny Hostin. "She went over her platform: Medicare for all, fully funded public schools and universities, paid family and sick leave, justice reform, immigration justice, infrastructure overhaul, clean campaign finance, economy of peace, housing as a human right."
Co-host Joy Behar greeted each proposal with words of encouragement, and the audience cheered when Hostin finished listing the policies.
"That sounds like a successful country," Behar said.
The conservative McCain was furious.
"This makes my head explode," she said. "I hope Democrats do run a Democratic-Socialist (campaign) because I think you'll lose spectacularly, and then I'll look forward to Election Night when I can tell everybody, 'I told you so,' if you end up running a radical."
She quoted Margaret Thatcher, who said socialism depends too much on "other people's money," and she insisted Americans would never tolerate paying taxes at the rate of European countries like Norway.
"They have given this enormous tax break to the richest people in the country," Behar said. "That tax break doesn't have to be so generous to the wealthy, does it? If you don't give that money to them, what happens to that money? Better schools, better post offices, better garbage pickups."
The audience cheered loudly, which only made McCain angrier.
"If you think the government is so running at things -- then the post office is a great-run business, the (Veterans Administration)," McCain said. "I'm sorry, comparing the United States of America to a small country in Europe is delusional. I'm sorry, some of us do not want to socialism to be normalized in this country."
Shan Wu, a defense attorney who has previously worked as a federal prosecutor, had to hold back laughter on Tuesday when CNN's Dana Bash described President Donald Trump's legal strategy.
During a discussion of the decision of the president's legal team to waive attorney-client privilege for an audio recording of attorney Michael Cohen and the president talking about paying off a porn star, Wu explained the legal strategy behind such a move.
"I think that's a very strategic move on Giuliani and that side's part," he explained/ "If they litigated the privilege issue, they run the risk that the judge might determine that there's a crime-fraud exception to it. It's now much more of a public debate about what's in the tapes. By doing it this way, they have a better chance of controlling the release."
Bash then pointed out that Trump's rationale behind waiving privilege on the tapes was that he had "nothing to hide" -- and Wu's face immediately turned into a smirk that he managed to get under control just before he explained why he was skeptical of such an argument.
"I think that's strategic spin," he said.

Patrick Little, a failed Republican Senate candidate in California whose campaign website espouses anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, was beat up outside of an Olympia, Washington bar — and the whole incident was caught on his own livestream.
On his website, Little bemoaned the myth of the "tolerant left" and made reference to the "gang of thugs" who attacked him and his cameraman. In the beginning of the hour-long video posted on his site, Little Enterprises, the onetime candidate said he was there to "name the Jew" — his anti-Semitic campaign slogan that denotes his belief in conspiracy theories that tout a Jewish cabal that controls the world.
At one point, Little is shown in an argument with a black person where he repeatedly asked them if they believed "the slave trade was completely controlled by [the] Jewish."
"I'm gonna knock you the f*ck out," the person told him. "You need to move on."
A crowd begins to gather as the argument continues, and around the 45-minute marker in the video Little posted on his website, the camera goes completely dark. Another person with a deep voice is heard telling him to "shut the f*ck up"
After he and the cameraman get back up, Little spoke to police officers who were already on the scene and said they were there investigating a "hate crime" against the person he was shown arguing with earlier.
On his website, Little used the incident to ask his supporters for money.
"They can attack us, they can even kill us, but we will never capitulate. We will never stop naming the Jew," he wrote. "Please consider supporting my LLC, as we sustain injuries to protect Americans’ rights."
Prior to losing his bid to become California's next senator by a 98.8 percent margin, Little made headlines for praising Hitler at a GOP convention while trampling Israel's flag.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Tuesday dismissed President Donald Trump's threat to revoke the security clearances of former Obama administration officials.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders revealed on Monday that Trump is considering pulling the clearances of former intelligence officials who have been critical of him. She named former CIA Directors John Brennan and Michael Hayden, former FBI Director James Comey, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Ryan suggested that Congress does not have an oversight role -- even if the president carries through with the threat.
"I think he's trolling people, honestly," Ryan laughed. "This is something that's in the purview of the executive branch."
"I think some people already lost their clearances, some people keep their clearances," he added. "That's something that the executive branch deals with. It's not really in our purview."

Speaking in front of a crowd of young conservatives, Attorney General Jeff Sessions joined in a chant of "lock her up," the 2016 Donald Trump campaign mantra urging the government to incarcerate 2016 Democratic Party presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
"Speaking of officials with security clearance making political statements, it is our understanding now that Attorney General Jeff Sessions just moments ago, talking about just this," MSNBC's Hallie Jackson reported.
Attorney General Sessions was speaking at High School Leadership Summit at George Washington University, sponsored by Turning Point USA.
"Amber, I'll go to you on this, because your jaw just about hit the floor," Jackson said to Amber Phillips, Washington Post political reporter.
"This is the nation's top law enforcement official," Phillips replied. "This looks like a total pivot in this moment for the attorney general to say, 'lock her up.'"
"I have to say, this is stunning this is a high school event," noted Anna Palmer, senior Washington correspondent for Politico. "I mean, this is how pervasive and where the discourse of our country is right now when you have an official like that, and you have teenagers, thinking it is an appropriate thing to yell this about, you know, a former presidential candidate."

Donald Trump's former attorney and longtime "fixer" Michael Cohen feels like he's been "hung out to dry," Vanity Fair reporter Emily Jane Fox noted during a Tuesday morning MSNBC appearance — and he's using what he knows to hit back at the president and his family.
"For ten years Michael Cohen had a window into everything that happened within the Trump organization," the reporter whose access to the attorney has led to a series on his tumultuous relationship with Trump told MSNBC's Joe Scarborough. "He had a window into what the president was doing in some of his business dealings, what the children were doing in their business dealings. This is a man who knows a lot and a man who feels he's been hung out to try."
Fox told the assembled panel that she began speaking to Cohen almost exactly a year ago, and in that time, he went from considering the Trumps to be as close as family to believing they are strategizing to discredit him as a means of "distraction" from the Russia probe.
Cohen, the reporter said, has dubbed the tactic the "D" strategy — discredit, distance and deflect. He believes that along with the president, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and eldest son Donald Trump Jr., who he once considered a brother, are all working to undermine him. As she noted in her most recent Vanity Fair report, however, the fixer has no intention to "roll over and die."
"What Michael Cohen may know," Fox said, "I don't think it's making anyone in Trump world sleep soundly."

Conservative broadcaster Charlie Sykes hammered former Fox News host Eric Bolling for joining the "cult of personality" around President Donald Trump.
The pair returned Tuesday to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to resume the previous day's fiery debate, and Sykes challenged Bolling over his claim that Trump's election win justified any actions he took as president.
"The question is, what is the price?" Sykes said. "In this bargain you get a lot of what you like, but it turns out the price is more than you expect."
Sykes blamed the president and his apologists for warping the conservative movement.
"It is making it dumber, crueler, more dishonest, more disconnected with reality, more extreme," Sykes said. "I think they're going to pay a price. The Republican Party and the conservative movement need to be more than a cult of personality and a slogan on a hat."
"I think this is the balancing act," he added. "How much are you willing to give up? How many of your principles, how many lies are you willing to accept, how many outrages are you willing to enable and rationalize? What sort of behavior are conservatives willing to accept?"
Host Joe Scarborough challenged Bolling to denounce Trump's equivocation on David Duke and the neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, and the conservative TV host stopped short.
"He's not a fluffy, soft president," Bolling agreed. "Joe, you and I both know Donald Trump personally -- I will tell you unequivocally -- the man is not racist. The man is not racist, he is not a racist. We can paint him with a racist brush if we don't like his policy, but that's not who the man is. When you dig deep into the guy, when you dig into his heart, we know he is not racist."
Sykes repeated his challenge to Bolling.
"What are you willing to accept?" Sykes said. "You know, how much of the racism, how much of the xenophobia, how much of the anti-Muslim bias, how much of the treatment of women. I remember when conservatives said character matters. I remember when conservatives would have united behind, you know, taking a hard line on the Russian attack. If Barack Obama had behaved the way Donald Trump behaved last week, Eric Bolling's head would have exploded."
Bolling interrupted and argued that Obama had assured Russian president Vladimir Putin he would go softer on him if he won a second term, and Sykes called him out.
"Can you let me finish once, Eric?" Sykes said. "We criticized that. It's the reversal of the position. It's the reversal of positions on free trade, on American leadership, on character, on corruption, because this cult of personality. Look, I understand that Donald Trump won, I understand you are getting a lot of what you want, but the transformation of the conservative movement, what he is doing to american political culture. -- we're paying for this."
Bolling happily glugged the metaphorical Kool-Aid.
"Charlie, you're right," Bolling said. "There's a new conservative movement in town, and guess what? Get used to it. Elections have consequences and Trump is the new conservative movement."
Sykes agreed, and again challenged Republicans to decide for themselves how much they were willing to tolerate.
"There's no question about it, the Republican Party is Donald Trump's party," Sykes said. "There's no request about it. Those of us who are conservative Trump critics are very much in the wilderness, no question about it. This is a party that has moved from being, you know, the party of ideas to being the party of 'Fox & Friends.'"
A food cart owner will pay $1,000 to a woman he went on a racist tirade against that included the spraying of hot sauce in exchange for charges being dropped against him.
The Oregonian reported that Islam El Masry, the owner of an Arabic food cart in Portland, signed a civil compromise agreement with Carlotta Washington after she shot a video of him throwing Gatorade and hot sauce at her.
Prior to the beginning of her recording, Washington asked the food truck owner to recount the change he'd given her. He allegedly called her the N-word and refused, and the subsequent video shows him throwing a full, unopened bottle of sports drink at her before dousing her in Sriracha, which reportedly got on her eyes, face and clothes.
El Masry was arrested, and admitted to the attack in two YouTube videos posted following his release from jail, which he said took place because he was grumpy from fasting during Ramadan.
"He did a bad thing, I hope he gets his life together, gets help for his anger and will think twice so he doesn't assault and humiliate anyone else like he did to me," Washington told the Oregonian. "But I have to forgive him because dragging this on, trying to sue him and holding grudges isn't going to make me feel any better."

In his endless quest to find ways to discredit Robert Mueller's investigation of ties between his campaign and Russian crimes meant to influence the election, Donald Trump this week really dug his heels into a conspiracy theory centered around Carter Page, a disquietingly strange former campaign aide of Trump's who has extensive and unsavory connections to the Kremlin.
For months, Trump and his supporters have been circulating a confusing conspiracy theory about a FISA warrant issued against Page, which is somehow evidence that the Trump campaign was unfairly victimized by a conspiracy between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton . For days now, Trump has been escalating his efforts to seed this conspiracy theory, spraying out angry, incoherent tweets squawking about the "Fake Dirty Dossier," the "Obama Gang" and the "discredited Mueller Witch Hunt," all in response to the New York Times publication of Justice Department documents regarding Page. Trump spokespeople have fanned out over cable news to seed the idea that somehow Page getting surveilled somehow means Trump is the victim of a frame-up.
That Trump, who openly and publicly colluded with Vladimir Putin to deny Russia's criminal hacking during a recent press conference, would want to direct attention away from the real crimes against the Clinton campaign and toward the fake crimes against the Trump campaign is unsurprising. But I must admit I found myself a little surprised to see so much energy going towards this conspiracy theory that's grown up around the FBI's surveillance of Page. Not because Trump is lying — which Trump clearly is doing and which he does about everything all the time — but because this particular conspiracy theory is so complex and confusing that it's hard to imagine that Trump's supporters are able to follow along.
But in reality, it may be that the confusing nature of the Page conspiracy theory is the point, and that it is actually helping Trump's efforts to discredit the Mueller investigation.
The real story of Page is clear enough. He worked for the Trump campaign, albeit briefly and at some distance from the candidate. Thanks to evidence collected from multiple sources, the FBI, as clearly stated in its FISA warrant request, came to believes Page was "the subject of targeted recruitment by the Russian government" and that he had been "collaborating and conspiring with the Russian government."
In contrast, the Trumpian conspiracy theory is hard to follow. As far as I can tell, Trump seems to be claiming that the FBI, under Obama and in conspiracy with Clinton, falsified information against Page to get this warrant. And the "evidence" for this is the existence of a dossier compiled by private intelligence researcher Christopher Steele, which was part, but certainly not all, of the FBI's case. Trump claims the Steele dossier is somehow discredited because the Clinton campaign, at one point, was financing Steele's work. (Initially, he had been funded by a Republican hostile to Trump.) If Page is so innocent, this complex conspiracy to surveil him was supposed to make a difference isn't really explained, though Trump tries to distract from that question by posturing dramatically in faux outrage over all this.
Odds are the typical Fox News viewer, when asked to explain who Page is and why his story somehow proves Trump is innocent, would have no idea what the hell is supposed to be going on and certainly not why any of this proves Trump's innocence. But that's probably the point. The complex nature of the Page conspiracy theory works to shield the claims being made from critical inquiry. By dumping a bunch of hard-to-follow noise about Page and the Russians and FISA warrants and dossiers and Obama and Steele, Trump and is propaganda administrators will scare most people away from even trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
And because people aren't looking too closely, they won't be able to see the huge holes in Trump's story, much less take the time to understand the various lies propping it up. Instead, most people will see this complex knot of accusations and counter-accusations about Trump and the Russians and just decide to believe whoever they want to believe rather than figuring it out.
It's human nature, when confronted with a complex subject that's hard to wrap your mind around, for people simply to take on faith what people they already trust or like think about it. Most people don't understand complex scientific theories, for instance, so they look instead to trusted authorities to assure them that yes, we know how chemotherapy works or why airplanes fly, so you don't have to know the exact mathematics.
But that same take-it-on-faith attitude can be easily exploited by bad actors. The climate-change "controversy" is a good example. Few people really understand the science behind it, so instead they put their trust in authority figures. Climate-change denialists take advantage of that fact, presenting their "criticisms" of the science as if they were on equal footing with the actual science, knowing that most people are going to decide not based on logical analysis of evidence they hardly understand, but a gut sense of who in the debate they trust more.
So it benefits the Trump administration to make the Russian collusion story, which is already confusing and complex enough, even more confusing. Every opportunity to present more twists and turns and characters into the narrative — such as making an issue out of FBI agent Peter Strzok's private text messages (which are actually irrelevant) or floating elaborate conspiracy theories about Carter Page — means that many more Americans decide to tune out of the Russia story.
This is likely why White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced, with great fanfare, a list of names of previous officials whose security clearance Trump plans to revoke. The move is being interpreted as petty, childish vengeance on these people for speaking out against Trump, and it's certainly that. But it also means that the cast of characters of this particular drama got even longer and more confusing. Which means more Americans will give up trying to follow the story, and instead put their faith in authority figures to handle that for them.
For most Republicans, as bizarre as this may seem, that means choosing to put their faith in Donald Trump, rather than trying to figure out what the hell is really going on.
A viral video shows a white woman threatening to call police on a black woman she overheard discussing the sale of food stamps -- and then using President Donald Trump's campaign slogan as a racist threat.
The black woman offered to sell some of her SNAP/food stamp benefits to a friend over the phone, and another shopper overheard the conversation and confronted her.
"You do know this is none of your damn business, right?" the black woman says, as a bystander recorded video.
"Oh, it's my business," the white woman says. "Because I pay my taxes."
"Damn, you ain't paid for these f*cking food stamps," the black woman says, her voice rising in agitation.
The white woman backs away, looks nervously at the bystander recording video and mutters Trump's campaign promise.
"We're going to build this wall," she says. "We're going to build this wall."
The black woman asks the white woman why she cares what she's got in her purse or what she talks about on her phone.
"Why the f*ck you in my business?" the black woman asks.
The white woman insists she has a right to interfere in the black woman's personal business, and then initiates a phone call as the video cuts off.
It's not clear where the encounter took place, or whether the white woman called police.
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough scorched Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and any reporter who takes him seriously as a check against President Donald Trump.
The Kentucky Republican says he hasn't decided whether he will vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as Supreme Court justice, but the "Morning Joe" host called Paul out as a fraud.
"You know, when we look at the senators who may or may not support Kavanaugh, let's just not even put Rand Paul on this list," Scarborough said. "He does this every time. 'I'm going to vote against that, I'm going to vote against this' -- he always ends up supporting Donald Trump blindly."
Scarborough slammed Paul Monday morning, and again Tuesday, for agreeing to go along with Trump's efforts to punish some of his political enemies by revoking their security clearance, and he said the senator was no maverick.
"He's going to vote for Kavanaugh," Scarborough said. "It's a joke for him to even -- any reporter that thinks he's not, seriously should look into another profession. He's going to vote for Kavanaugh."
On Sunday, Georgia state Rep. Jason Spencer was the subject of a segment on Sacha Barron Cohen's new show.
The Republican made a fool of himself, screaming the N-word, baring his buttocks and pretending to be a Chinese tourist and using a mock Asian accent.
Discussing the segment on Monday night, CNN's Don Lemon was amused and horrified.
"You've got to see this," he said. "I'm not sure it's appropriate for children, but you really have to see this."
Lemon then aired clips in which Spencer humiliated himself by pulling his pants down and moving his buttocks toward a make-believe terrorist.
"So he did that because he was—he was told it would scare terrorists," Lemon said, laughing so hard he could not speak.
